8 Rocks has been open for only 4 months, and all I can ask myself is why I didn't try it earlier?
This is an independent cafe on the Loughton High Road with a diverse food menu, carefully selected wine list, friendly staff, and competitive prices.
The manager, Vik, greeted my husband and I upon entry and made us feel comfortable. He was also our server and patiently answered our questions and made recommendations. I quickly realised how vast his wine knowledge is and how modest he is in his expertise.
I ordered the vegetarian breakfast (I was craving the comfort of an Engligh breakfast for dinner) and my husband ordered the pesto mozzarella sandwich. The food was prepared quickly, served hot, and with great presentation. My eggs were perfectly poached, with toasted sourdough for my baked beans, vibrant avocado, well-seasoned mushrooms, a large serving of grilled halloumi, and a roasted tomato. It was a feast for both the eyes and the stomach!
Though I would love to be selfish and keep 8 Rocks all to myself, the work of Vik and his chef is too good to stay hidden for long. Try this new restaurant; join the buzzing breakfast and lunch energy or come in the evening for a...
Read moreThere were four in our party for lunch. Unfortunately this was not a good experience. I ordered the Greek salad (never had a bad one until now) when it came up it was just full of green peppers (yuk)and not much else, there was no olives. I called the waiter, after a while he came to me and said they'd run out. He then put a few green olives with stones. It would have been more fitting for them to say it wasn't on the menu. My husband ordered the salt beef salad. Which was just tiny pieces of shredded beef, fresh cucumber, picked cucumber and a little amount of salad. He was not impressed. My friend had tuna salad she asked for the red onion to be taken out. He said it was in the tuna mix , but they put additional red onion on it, which she clearly didnt want. The only dish which was ok was an omelette...drinks where a can of cider, diet Coke, tea and a glass of water...how on earth was the...
Read moreWe had breakfast here last week as we were in the area returning some tiles to Fired Earth that we had over ordered on. Breakfast was very nice, I had the smoked salmon and avocado which was great, a very very generous amount of salmon was served to me, though I'm not sure if the bread was Sourdough bread (even though it had that on the menu). My partner had the full english which he also enjoyed, though his toast hadn't really seen the toaster much (see on side of plate), he could have sent it back and asked for it to be more toasted. So his own fault! On the whole very nice, quiet when we went in Saturday morning but by the time we left it had got very busy. Coffee was OK, not too bitter and they did have oak milk which was a bonus (though not sure if it was the Barista version - I'm so fussy!). Decor seemed a little gloomy at the back, the staff were...
