A pub with all the potential in the world sadly let down by how it’s being run. It’s a chaotic mix of bar and table service, neither of which was being done well. If you try and please everyone, you please no one as is the case here. I ordered a pint and a tea at the bar and was told they’d bring the tea to the table. The tea hadn’t come and after 20 minutes I went to the bar and chased it up. It was sat at the end of the bar waiting and the young chap put it on a tray and asked a young female colleague whether it was my tea and they said yes. They both walked off leaving the tray for me to take with no apology or acknowledgement of a long wait. I light as well have waited at the bar for it to be made and taken it myself, but the confused setup here means no accountability and no one knowing what they’re doing at the expense of the customer experience. The customer service here was non existent and there is clearly no leadership or organisation. Worse still the pot of tea only filled a single cup 3/4s as per the photos. What’s the point of the pot? You might as well just serve it by the cup as a pot is supposed to refill the cup provided. The place is run by non pub people who really don’t know what they’re doing. I can’t even say the staff need customer service training as they didn’t have basic manners which should come naturally. Clearly this wasn’t picked up when employing people at the interview stage and not remedied since either. The pub is in a great location, but is an absolute mess in how it’s being run and managed by people who go have no pride in their work. Hopefully it gets taken over by someone who knows what they’re doing such as a proper landlord who actually cares. A woeful experience here and not worth the overinflated prices.

We booked The Cricketers purely on spec but it was a wise choice. Parking on the narrow, residential streets was not easy but not too difficult. There was a range of ales on offer; I chose Hogsback IPA and was disappointed it was £6.25 for a pint but it was delicious. However, all these grumblings aside, the meal was fantastic. I tried the Japanese vegetable gyoza, new to me; roast turkey; chocolate fudge cake for pudding. Everything was excellent. The portions were just right: not skimpy and not so overwhelming that I came away feeling stuffed like a turkey. The prices were very, very reasonable. The service, likewise, was excellent. Our main server was Edward, who was attentive and polite. I will definitely be making a return visit.

I can't put my finger on why I can't give this more stars. 3.5 is what I'd like but I can't. The pub needs some tlc really, it's looking tired. The lake is more like a big pond and the common is not what I expected. The service was lovely, greeted with a big smile and she was great, so cannot take anything away from the staff. The burger was good, nothing special, feltnit was just missing that something. My wife said the Earth burger was really good though. My main disappointment.... The S'mores, toasted marshmallows... But they were not toasted, they may have been last week but they were cold, clumped together and just the tiny ones you'd add to a hot chocolate. Also the Brownie was cold as well, gutted.

I hate the fact that I am having to do this considering every time we have been to this pub it has been amazing but today I don’t know what happened maybe a bad day for them or something god knows but the way we were treated today was absolutely disgusting… I have never had any complaints about this pub before until today. I don’t know necessarily if it was the bar staff but either way the regular customers the looks and the way they were talking about us. It was absolutely disgusting. I don’t work in a particularly great work environment, but I know for damn certain none of my customers or my staff will talk about customers like that in front of them where they could hear. If you want to talk about people behind closed doors away from them fine do that we all do we are human, but in front of paying customers it is disgusting. I work in hospitality business. I should know this for certain you put a smile on your face. You serve the customers with respect if you have a reason to throw them out throw them out then do so they are paying customers they pay your wages respect them that’s all they ask, I have never had to write a review about disgusting behaviour in the workplace. I read many of them, but always thought nowhere around here would be like that, but oddly the one place I genuinely thought wouldn’t be is this is not appreciated as paying customers who have loved coming here for years, but I’ll say whether or not we return is a completely other story. The staff need to do their job. Put a Smile on your face and be nice to customers if they’re trying to talk to you don’t interrupt them and tell them to go away is not really fair… the fact that it was a regular member of staff who we have had no issues with before and who we have thought is genuinely really nice. It’s upsetting we have love all the staff in there till this day being treated disrespectfully does not go well everyone will say we understand we get treated respectfully. If you’re being treated respectfully then shouldn’t you treat the customers in the same behaviour today was disgusting like I said whether we return or not is a...

Such a shame how a pub in a great location is run.

Food is overpriced - what they are charging for bog standard meal is beyond me, with the prices of food you would expect much better quality. Plenty of other pubs in Epsom offering better quality food at the same price. The menu is boring and hasn’t changed in a good few years.

The pub itself is situated in a fanatic area and can be a buzz come warm weather but the inside has not changed in id say nearly a decade if not more. The toilets leave nothing to be desired, they look Edwardian.

The pub has been bounced around to many different owners within the last 7-8 years. Each of which seem to have less and less input and do nothing in terms of renovation to the facilities or the menu. It really does have potential but nobody is willing to spend any money and this seems to have been the case for as long as I have been visiting.

The only thing decent about this place was the quiz that was run on a Wednesday, has been run by the same person for over a decade and attended by many of the same people too. But now they’ve decided to sack him off also and bring in somebody else under “new management” Some things are just better left untouched. Yet another pub chain coming in with bright ideas yet having no understanding of the community and what people want from a pub.

The Cricketers will always attract customers due to the location but my advise would be to save your money and go to one of the other numerous pubs in Epsom to get better food and give your money to a pub that will actually invest in itself.

So sad to see how a place with such great memories has had the slate...
