Impromptu lunch. Now, if you want the true definition of a hidden gem, this is it. Located down a side street in Sandiacre. That's Nottingham or maybe Derby, depending on which side you say, "Ay up me duck." We must confess that we have not dined here for some years. Shall we say the 'slate days'. The Lunch Menu 2 courses 45.00 3 courses 58.00 With a choice of four dishes per course. First up are two different little snacks. 'Fish & Chip'. Yes, it's a mouthful of a delicious chippy tee in one bite. Forget the lunch. Just bring a bowl of them. Can't remember what the other was. After that, you are served a nice slice of sourdough bread with butter that's been on the table since being seated. Which is a bit strange, but hey, ho. Starters Hand dived Orkney scallop, macadamia, quinoa, lime. *big and succulent. Pork belly, piccalilli, cauliflower. *served just right. Mains Beef & Oysters', dashi, mustard thermidor. *Now, this was a dish to remember. It's topped with the tastiest oyster ever. Halibut, trout, shrimp, bouillabaisse, saffron. *Two pieces of excellent fish. With the generous portions, we skipped desserts and had coffees. Which are served with a choice of choccies. The service was very good.

On the 1st of November I had the most incredible 40th birthday party at La Rock. Daiva, Nick and all of the staff absolutely blew myself, my husband and all of the guests away with their exceptional standard of service. Now as regular customers we are used to their high standards but with 55 guests, nearly all of which were drinking they made sure everyone was attended to leaving everyone as impressed as we always are. There was never a queue at the bar, the food was incredible and the way they constantly checked in with me to make sure I was enjoying myself and everything was ok just added to the whole experience. I have the most ridiculously long list of foods I have to avoid and this never seems to be a problem. No matter how complex this gets they take it in their stride and serve me with dishes that look as good as every other guests. Their relaxed and calm manner helped when at times the night became quite overwhelming. I really can not recommend them more highly ❤️

Visited La Rock for the first time for a Saturday lunch having been bought a voucher for my birthday and was very impressed. Had a couple of really good mocktails whilst choosing our food. Though a tasting menu was offered we preferred the choices on the a la carte so went down that route instead with a large glass of wine each. Interesting wine choices too with the ones we went for being from Macedonia and Libya. My salmon starter was very good, nicely seared and served with a great, salty dashi sauce. The main of fillet of beef was even better. Two decent-sized slabs of lovely pink beef and a disc of salty oxtail crumb accompanied with onion cooked a number of ways. The dulce de leche parfait dessert was a great finish to the meal. Service was good throughout and our choice of food and drink meant that while it wasn't cheap it was by no means bank-breaking. We had a very enjoyable lunch at La Rock and will definitely consider returning.

Welcome if you bring a speech jammer for your child-Not child friendly

The Food was good

The waitresses were friendly, polite and helpful

Unfortunately our whole experience was ruined by the Front Of House/Restaurant Manager Daiva coming over and asking our 18 month old son directly to keep the noise down first, then on a second occasion she anxiously asked me if I could keep him quiet as there were other guests and we weren’t expecting him!. What difference expecting him would have made I don’t know!?

  1. I e-mailed the restaurant before visiting in April to inquire about my son and was told that children were allowed at the 12:00 hours sitting, based on this I booked at 12:30 hours

  2. I understand that our little darling is not everyone’s little darling, so we were conscious of noise for other guests

  3. Noise coming from my son was intermittent and the noise was reasonable noise.

  4. Other guests were interacting with my son and were not complaining about him to staff or to us as his parents

  5. I felt we were dealt with like we were tumultuous, lacked etiquette and empathy towards fellow dinners

  6. We left early (skipped Tea/coffee) as we felt embarrassed, awkward, anxious and tense. We didn’t argue as we didn’t want to cause a scene and fit into a stereo-type that might have been preconceived by her.

Recommendation

It’s probably best that the restaurant doesn’t allow children at any time, if the reaction from the Front Of House/Restaurant Manager is as above.

Keeping a high chair where it was not immediately accessible (in the vacuum cleaning cupboard) was a bit of a clue initially that the restaurant wasn’t...

Absolutely diabolical greeting by lady in reception ! I went to this restaurant tonight as a celebration meal for a great business achievement but was sorely disappointed and could not wait to leave . I went with my daughter and grandson and we were greeted at the door by a very rude lady who announced “we do not accommodate children in the evening here, especially when they behave like that “ pointing at my grandson whose only crime was to stand on the first step of the stairs? Please can someone tell me why this would warrant such a rude greeting from the lady on reception? All we did was walk through the door . The food was lovely and the chef was clearly skilled, but was seriously let down by the staff. I even caught another young girl sniggering to the said lady who was on reception about us once she took our order, again very rude and unprofessional . I felt uncomfortable and after such a rude start to the meal I did not really want to stay, the said staff made me feel Very I welcomed . Who wants to eat their dinner in this terrible atmosphere, do not take your family here, I would not recommend it at all and I certainly will never eat here again . It’s no use the food being amazing if the atmosphere from rude and childish staff just ruins it. I do not expect this level of non service from such a restaurant. Diabolical! I cannot rate this restaurant low enough, insulting a child for just being a child whatever has the...
