My husband and I popped into Cackleberrys for lunch between morning and afternoon appointments in Fareham and we're SO glad we did. It was our first time at this lovely cafe, which is at the nicer end of the town (near the bottom of the High Street) and it won't be our last. It has about two dozen covers and is well-laid out and pleasantly decorated. The staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. The selection of food is AMAZING - all produced, by hand, by the owner's wife (nothing mass-produced or bought in), and it all looks so appetising we struggled to choose! I had the goats cheese tartlet and my husband had a tuna melt, both of which come with side salad as standard (and it's a proper and interesting salad, not just a garnish). Both were absolutely delicious. We followed this with a huge (standard) slice of the lemon, earl grey and lavender cake, which is utterly DIVINE and large cappuccinos (and the lovely staff member with the pretty mauve hair wasn't kidding when she said LARGE!). I can't recommend Cackleberrys highly enough; for work colleagues popping out for lunch, to friends meeting up for coffee or lunch (it's also good for young mums as the immaculately clean loo has baby changing facilities as well as being disabled-friendly). They also have an alcohol licence, so you can even have a cocktail after midday! And finally, you can get your food to take out - so I'm going to have to go back the next time I'm at Tesco's nearby to get some more of that...
Read moreJust came back from lunch. I will not recommend this place to vegans and vegetarians, there's exactly one vegetarian option and no vegan ones. You can get a gluten-free bread, though. I had a weird interaction with one member of staff after coming out of the toilet. She asked me about what sauce I'd like with my eggs and since I didn't order any sauce, I didn't know what she was talking about. I was told off for that, interestingly. My hot chocolate was cold by the time I ate my muffin, and I'm not the one to talk while I eat, that's my partner. I almost snorted it in - I was that hungry! Cold drink which cost me over £5 was left on the table and when we shared that with staff while paying we only got a 'sorry' in return. Plus, our table was sticky and the only music we heard was Ed Sheeran's. The meal was nice and served pretty quickly. After leaving £25 for the meal, I feel like three stars are...
