We visited today with high tea for two voucher gifted by a student. It was empty except for us. The lady was very friendly and we ordered our options. It was nicely presented but the jam was cheap little packets and basic plastic packets of cream. The scones were not fresh and both slices of cake were dry on the outer edges. Upon opening the cream for the scones it was mouldy. It was covered in condensation inside showing that it had been going off. Reported to the lady who offered other pots however each one also had blue mould present. There was no best before date on the tubs. There was a slight apology however the issue was blamed on the manufacturers, despite stating they had been delivered last Thursday (6 days by this time) clearly there is an issue with the refrigerator or they were older than stated. We were offered butter sachets as a replacement . This then put us off eating the rest of the chicken and bacon sandwiches (I had already eaten some) in case they werenât fresh or been refrigerated in the correct way. Our pot of tea was also forgotten until we asked. The lady then proceeded to call the cream manufacturer on speakerphone to report the issue while we were still eating. There was no compensation for the issue such as a token of apology (we also spent money on other drinks and a lunch) and no profuse apologies just blame on the manufacturer. A real shame and I hate to write bad reviews for small businesses but this was...
Read moreI visited here with a friend today for the first time and we were both disappointed with the service and food. Firstly, we were left waiting for so long by the only waitress. She was also strangely dressed in a tracksuit and hoody which didn't look very presentable. Secondly, once we finally ordered, my friend was given the wrong flavour soup. She went up the counter to say that the order was wrong, and then the lady in the kitchen opened a cupboard in view of my friend and pulled out a TIN of the correct flavour. This was really strange as the flavour was listed as a soup of the day and we fully expected it to be homemade, not just Heinz (or whatever it was) from a tin đ¤ It made us wonder what else has just been brought in, such as the sandwiches, rather than being made there. We won't be revisiting the cafe based on our experience today.
EDIT: In response to the owner, in absolutely no way am I being discriminatory by making a comment on here that the waitress did not look presentable because she was dressed in a tracksuit and hoody. Clothing like that is out of keeping with a vintage tea shop which is the point I was making. It is perfectly fine to have an opinion like that. Clothing is also not a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010. So to accuse me of being discriminatory has no ground and is completely ridiculous, and is purely annoyance and defensiveness from the owner based on my...
Read moreDaughter took me and her dad for his birthday tea which was excellent for them both but not me.The tea was real tea served in delicate china pots and very dainty cups.Very Victorian and so clean and airy .Staff were friendly and attentive but not in your face. The menu was wide including various sandwiches and a wide range of sliced cake plus what looked like delicious scones with clotted cream and jam. I give then 4/5 as they do nothing for vegans..... being one this excluded me from partaking in what looked like a delicious afternoon tea that I would recommend to any one.All they needed to do was carry one vegan cake that anyone could eat as always delicious plus a slice of vegan cheese with salad which again any one can eat in a sandwich so no waste to the shop. Still if they did carry something vegan in the future I would give the 20/10! Will and have recommended them to friends as a place to enjoy but if vegan take your own milk as I did and they will allow you to take your...
