We went on the Curry Night with friends.

The positives are the food and drink are good, the staff are friendly and professional.

On this particular night the experience we had here was not the usual as previously food and drinks have been bought out fairly quickly even when very busy.

I used the App to order 4 curries and drinks, then used the App again to order a portion of chips.

The drinks arrived after about 10 minutes and the chips shortly afterwards. We knew they were very busy so waited 40 minutes for the curries and then asked how much longer they would be. We were told we are two tickets away from being served, we wondered whether they had not picked up the order from the App? We received our food an hour after ordering.

After we had finished our food we ordered more drinks via the App. By now the restaurant is fairly empty and we could see a few people going to the bar and being served immediately by the 3 staff. After waiting 20 minutes we asked about our drinks and were told that there are 2 bar staff doing general drinks and 2 doing App drinks. We had been watching and knew this was not the case as we saw the 3 staff members serving people coming to the bar, so again wondered perhaps they are not looking for the orders via the App?

By this point the restaurant is nearly empty, but the tables are still full of dirty plates and glasses, clearly this does not affect us, but we wondered whether there is enough staff to cover everything that needs doing as the staff...

I have frequented The Hippodrome for many years and on a few occasions had to complain about my meal, usually because it was cold. Staff dealt with it and it was replaced with an apology. On the evening of Easter Sunday I ordered a meal and a pint then proceeded to my usual table (No 25) only to find that the seats had been taken by table 24 ... a very big group of friends enjoying their meal and beverages. I waited for my meal sitting at the adjacent table No 26 .. it never arrived and I wasn't approached by any member of staff to enquire if I had ordered a meal for table 25. It then transpired in conversation with various members of staff that my meal was given to table 24 ??.. why, and when I approached staff at the bar to ask if any of them possessed common sense or a tongue in their head to actually find the person who had ordered for table 25. It turned out that it was MY FAULT !! , for sitting at table 26 (immediately adjacent) to 25 and not telling anyone . The subsequent verbal exchange at the bar left me dumbfounded and lost for words.. I was given a full refund but that is not the point as to why I have given this account on the reviews. I was a long term customer of The Hippodrome and many staff knew me, but to be spoken to the way I was and at no point was any apology given, has left a bad taste in my mouth. Ps it wasn't from the food because I...

This was not our best wetherspoons experience, the place was very busy so take that into consideration...but, the tables were sticky to the point that 2 paper menus has embedded themselves and couldn't be removed. We had to actively keep our kids from touching the table at all as it was so horrible, then our plates stuck to it as well (we had already ordered to the table, so couldn't move!) the floors were much the same. We did like that it was in a central location, that they had a little snug which we sat in, as the main floor area was lots of tables and booths all crammed in together, which would have put us off otherwise, as it was very loud (full when we visited on a Saturday lunchtime). The service was as you'd expect - everything came quickly, staff were clearly rushed off their feet but were polite and efficient. We liked the building design, they'd kept the cinema style and had cool photos as various classic filmstars and some stained glass windows, which were interesting features to admire whilst there. Cleanliness aside, it was a decent spoons experience, all reasonably priced and tasty, except my fried egg which had gone rubbery (on a small American breakfast), but at the price I couldn't complain and didn't! Didn't stay in their rooms, so no comment...

The Hippodrome pub. A typical Wetherspoons pub but the area above the bar is nicely decorated from the converted cinema. Staff were pleasant. The atmosphere is a typical Wetherspoons but a bit too dark in such a wide open space. The air conditioning was set cool at 10pm, to clear everyone out perhaps, as it worked. A lot of pints at £1.99, so very cheap, dearer ones were only £2.99, also cheap. Drinks were very fresh. Average quality food but great for the price. The Empire State burger bun was not toasted, but meat tasted good. The Eggs Royale for breakfast was delicious. The beer garden was nice but at times sheltered by height of Wetherspoon hotel beside it and can be quite smokey. See the "Wetherspoon Hotel" on Google Maps for reviews of that.

Food was "OK" - as in perfectly edible but not amazing by any means. Staff generally friendly and of course wetherspoons prices are always good. What let the place down the most was the lack of table clearing and cleaning. At least 8/9 not cleared meaning no "free" tables when arriving unless you clear it yourself (then the tables aren't wiped) Staff and visitors were piling up tables with plates but none being taken back with them. When bringing food out, surely it would make sense to take used plates back as you pass those tables. Time and time again they walk back empty handed. Generally makes the place look very untidy and unclean.

A surprisingly nice hotel a d bar. I stayed here on business for one night and was a bit sceptical of a JD pub / hotel. The building is an old theatre, was then a bingo hall and now a pub / restaurant and a hotel. The hotel is lovely, big rooms tastefully decorated in keeping with the original building. Comfortable bed, big walk-in shower, plenty of space to sit and quiet. The pub has been very sympathetic to the original theatre and was a nice place to eat. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend it and will make a point of staying there again.
