whilst waiting for friends to join us for lunch we met a couple outside the Fire House and got chatting. They asked could we recommend somewhere for lunch and we told them we were meeting friends at the Fire House and it was good food. They had two dogs with them and one did not realise it was not dog friendly. The couple entered the restaurant ahead of us and the manager explained that they could not except dogs but their sister restaurant did. I JOKINGLY turned to my friend and said oh that is terrible the doggies will not get dinner and we laughed. Unfortunately Matthew the Manager who obviously overheard my conversation became very aggressive and started shouting at me about the open kitchen and cross contamination. Matthew then turned and sarcastically called me darling! You do not call female customers darling it is derogatory, sexist, extremely unpleasant and unprofessional. This type of behaviour is outdated and had I of been male he certainly would not have called me darling in such an offensive and vile manner. I immediately walked out disgusted he was so out of order I was literally bowled over by his mannerisms. When our friends eventually arrived the eight of us went to the Killyhevelin where we collectively spent over £300 on food and cocktails. The Fire House was empty for a lunch time and if they can afford to lose that sort of money I wish them all the best. I can honestly say I nor any member of my family will ever set foot in there again. To behave like this in front of other customers he was dealing with is the height of...
Read moreLovely restaurant, staff nice but seemed under pressure.
Husbands starter beef burnt ends was good size and very tasty. My chicken wings were very good and very tasty but for £8.75 I would have expected more than 4. (Not that I needed them)
Pizza - Mine was slightly undercooked and a little doughy. Couldn't lift the slice and could see it in the crust. However toppings and sauce were very tasty and I asked for some basil oil which was fabulous with it. Husband had the steak special. Steak was ordered rare but was unfortunately arrived more medium however it was very well rested and no blood on the pizza. I would recommend slicing it a bit finer so that it's not as difficult to eat but was very tasty.
Wine by the glass range a little poor for somewhere with such a high turnover.
Very busy night which is fantastic for a Wednesday, really lovely to see. There was a large party beside us and unfortunately they were a bit loud with kids running about a bit but not restaurants fault. Also we were paying as they were paying individually and ended up queuing for 10-15 mins just to pay our bill.
All little things really. Food was lovely, service was nice. Bill was £77 2 starters, 2 pizzas, 2...
Read moreThe Firehouse is clearly very popular, as by the time I arrived, people without a reservation had to sit at the bar.
The drink selection is excellent, although I was not able to have any.
The food is well made, and very good. I had the chicken burger, which came with a delightful salad and some of the best chips I've had in quite some time - crispy and missing only a pinch of salt, which is significantly better than most places. My only quibble with the meal was that the meat was perhaps a bit underseasoned, but the burger was otherwise excellent - not too large, too wet, or too dry.
I opted for dessert, specifically, the chocolate brownie. This was served in a miniature skillet, which came with a heat warning and ice cream. As I was rushing to make my next connection, I was not able to let it cool, but it was nevertheless the smooth, heavy chocolate blend I expect from a hot brownie.
The service was excellent. The staff were communicative, quick and gave an excellent impression throughout. It goes without saying that they were helpful and friendly with guests. It was obvious that many of them kept a close eye on the various goings on to ensure a...
