After expressing my appreciation of the wonderful time my partner and I had here last night with the owner in person [I deeply regret not getting his name now so I can give him the credit he deserves], he requested I share our experience online, which I am more than happy to oblige.
We were visiting from London as a surprise weekend break for my partner on her birthday. She loves Indian food and Coppers was the only Indian restaurant near our hotel. Booking a table online was easy and instant, but more impressively the owner was incredibly accommodating when I called on the phone to make a special request for our visit.
The venue itself is quite something. On entering, we walked up a colourful spiral staircase [note: I did not see a lift available for customers with mobility issues] with lots of photos adorning the walls, and were greeted by the owner at the top.
He had set aside a corner table for us at our request and was incredibly warm and welcoming, wishing my partner a happy birthday. The menu offered lots of choice, but not so much to make you question the quality, which included a broad selection of wines and beers too. As we didn't see our typical madras or vindaloo options, the owner happily talked us through the items on the menu and advised us on what we might like most based on our usual preferences - next level service.
He was not wrong either - not only was my lamb rogan josh superb, but (again at our request), he tweaked the recipe to make it spicier than usual in line with my tastes. My partner had the chicken and garlic curry, which also did not disappoint.
The real touch of class, though, was the chocolate brownie he produced at the evening, completely unprompted, with happy birthday written in icing and a sparkler on top. It really made my partner's night, especially after I had earlier confessed to her that I had forgotten to procure a birthday cake.
To be clear, this was a unique and special gesture made possible by it being an unusually quiet night in what is normally a busy restaurant (before everyone starts expecting free birthday dessert at Coppers).
The price was incredibly reasonable too at about £56 for two mains, a starter, three sides, two glasses of wine and a beer.
Above all, the personal touch of an owner, who clearly likes people, enjoys getting to know them (we were treated to some photos of his adorable pet German Shepherd), and values their custom is what really earned that fifth star.
Thank you for such a...
Read moreThe host/manager let the evening down, he had an egotistical attitude, when he was asked about the spice/hotness of the food and which regent of India it came from, he was very dismissive and spoke down, rather than elaborate on his food he served. The serving of the starters and main meal had no system, the starters were plated, however the main meal was placed in serving bowls and placed on our plates which meant mixing the side orders like rice and vegetables difficult to mix in the bowls. We had to ask for serving spons and reorganized our eating arrangement. During and after the main meal, there was no further service, for additional drinks and desert or coffee offered, by 22:15, it was uncomfortable sitting in the restaurant as the management was more interested in closing up. The premises entrance was uninviting with a cycle parked in the hallway abd carpets needed a good clean through the entire premises. Considering there was a lot of room in the restaurant, the tables for four people were very small and cramped. Shame to state the above, because the food was tasty and reasonably priced, and the two young waitress were...
Read moreMy first visit and it was absolutely stunning. The food was hot and tasted amazing with equal measure of ingredients as one didn't over power another. I was told it was Authentic Indian food and it definitely didn't disappoint as very different from your average Indian restaurant. I spent around £40 and didn't leave hungry which was a very good sign for me. I had king prawn dishes and so much taste. I'm looking forward to visiting again and having a look at the newer options on the menu as the owners refine it. Atmosphere was great live singer but you could still talk with out shouting so a plus for me. Spacious and airy so you're not sitting on top of each other again a big plus for me. Service was great as its all cooked fresh the timing of the courses too was good and didn't seem excessive. As it's cooked fresh I honestly would not have minded a little wait but again not a long wait at all. Chatted to the new owners telling me all about the new dishes they want to add to the menu so I'm looking forward to trying them over time. Over all a great evening and I'm still...
