So much potential but let down by a few things. Quant little place and quite cosy. Friendly staff. But it wasn't that great for me but my partner enjoyed her food. When you sit down there is a sign that says "All food is prepared fresh so in busy times the wait could be up to 30 minutes". All the tables appeared taken so we weren't too worried about the potential wait. I ordered a "fried" breakfast and at £12 I was looking forward to something special and my other half ordered a toasted sandwich. After just over half an hour a member of staff came up and apologised about the wait and offered free additional hot drinks (which was great). A little later the food arrived, this is where for me it went badly wrong (the toasted sandwich my partner ordered was as she said "really good"). Firstly I've never been so underwhelmed by a "fry up", by volume it certainly wasn't worth 12 quid! Maybe the quality would make up for it. Nope that wasn't the case. The bacon looked like it had been attacked by a flamethrower. Now I could of sent it back but I'd waited long enough and to be fair I don't really feel it should of made it to the table. At least two employees/staff members weren't bothered by what they were serving up. The rest of the food was at best adequate. For a cup of tea and a sandwich this place is okay but for anything else it appears they are punching well above their weight here. Sorry but I won't be giving them a second chance,...

I went to Nutmeg with my 2 friends and had some lunch and the 3 of us shared 2 pots of tea.

One of my friends paid first and was charged for her food plus 2x £2.30 as she had 2 cups of tea.

I asked how much is a pot of tea? To be told, they don’t charge per pot they charge per person. Then then attempted to charge me £4.60 for my 2 cups of tea. When I said this is ridiculous…. this means you are charging us £6.90 for a pot of tea!!

This is crazy, if 2 people get a pot of tea you’ll be charged £4.60 (£2.30 each) but if 3 people share exactly the same quantity of tea then they’ll charge you £6.90.

If I had not said anything we would have walked away paying £13.80 for 2 pots of tea! I dread to think how many other people have been ripped off! In the end, we paid £6.90.

Also £7.50 for 2 slices of toast with 1 tomato, half an avocado and a handful of mushrooms is a bit steep. Loaf is Sandgate will give you 2 bits of avocado toast loaded with avocado and beans for £5.90.

Nutmeg, sort it out - have 1 price for a small pot of tea and a different price for the larger pot. It’s very...

Little bit dusty and pricey. Was the first cafe I came across when I walked down the street. Noticed it only had a 4 star hygiene rating. Food was ok I suppose but after we finished and walked further down the road came across a lot more cheaper cafe's with 5 star ratings and the food in them looked pretty decent. I personally would have used a different cafe if I knew they were there. If I'm ever in the street again I'll know to walk on by next time. Wasn't awful but also not great and like I say a bit on the pricey side. Probably could do with a spring clean as walls and tables had dried food on them, menu's were sticky and I put my hand in a blob of red sauce when I first sat down, not sure how long it had...

Amazing little find a great place for gluten free options. There were 3 different types of gluten free cake on offer and the friendly staff checked the ingredients of the hot chocolate for me. Really appreciate that this wasn't seen as a bother. Lovely atmosphere, quite cosy, could imagine it would get busy so if you see a table stop in and pause for awhile, well worth it. Highly recommend. Photo of my hot chocolate made with almond milk. And checked for gluten free ingredients.

Came here for lunch recently and the food was delicious. The service however really let it down. It wasn't particularly busy (we came at the end of lunch) but we waited almost 15 mins to have our order taken, a further 15 mins to receive our drinks which were only tap water and a coffee. The food was really tasty and reasonably priced. I would return but only if I wasn't pressed for time. It was lovely to sit in their courtyard, though it could do with a bit of spruce up!
