Whenever I'm in the area, I always used to make a point of visiting this fish and chip shop as it was the best, alas not anymore!
It has been awhile since I last went there but I got the impression it may have changed ownership? Anyway, the customer service was shocking how bad it was. I ordered cod and chips, then decided to go for a large haddock and I received a big tut! Your welcome that I wanted to spend more money!
While I was waiting, two men were getting their order and it became apparent that a mix up of some form had occurred between a standard and large cut of fish, interestingly resulting in them getting more or less accused of taking a larger piece, clearly overlooking who is actually bagging up orders! I was quite pleased to get out of there as the atmosphere was tense.
When it came to eating my order, well I'm still wondering if I actually got a large haddock as it was more like a standard piece, had it not had large haddock written on the paper I would have gone back! What there was of it was OK, batter was more soggy then crispy and the chips well, they were served it a polystyrene tray, no problem with that, but the fact that the chips met exactly level with the rim of the tray was surprising. Clearly portions there are now below standard.
Great shame as there are so many "OK" fish and chip shops around that to find a good one is hard, now a fantastic one has joined the OK club, as such, it is unlikely I...

Read moreAVOID AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU ENJOY FOOD POISONING AND BEING SPOKEN TO VERY RUDELY
I didn't even want to give one star, but there was no option for none.
Very rude staff. One woman in particular has to be one of the rudest people I have ever had the misfortune to meet. While I was waiting for my take away, I heard her saying to the other girl cooking "f* him". I took no notice as I thought it was about someone else. When I got home and unwrapped my food though, I knew it was about me: It was smashed to bits, literally. Savaloy broken in half with the skin hanging off and dry, chips one congealed mass of under cooked pap and had the look of something you'd find on the pavement on a Friday night after the pubs empty out.
I told a work mate about this earlier today and he said he knows someone who found a piece of excrement in his food from their once. How true this is, I don't know. In any case, I'd avoid this place like Ebola if I were you.
On a last note, I offered the food to my dog who refused to eat it and he normally eats anything.
Note to the manager: Sack the staff and start again. There are plenty of unemployed people in the area that would love a job. Sort it out mate, or you'll loose...
