Orchard Lane Coffee House — Restaurant in Folkestone and Hythe District

My brother-in-law and I recently had a fantastic experience taking a barista and latte art lesson here. They typically don't offer this class to non-baristas/trainees, but I think they should definitely advertise it as it would make a great gift. Our barista, Steve, was an incredibly knowledgeable and patient teacher, and he makes a mean cortado!

We both managed to create decent renditions of a monk's head and tulip latte art patterns. We also learned a lot more about the brewing process, temperatures, coffee beans, and the best type of milk to use. Steve expertly answered all of our questions with ease. We both left feeling energized (which might have been the caffeine!) and eager to learn more and improve our coffee skills.

We were looking for solid specialty coffee when we were in the area and this didn’t disappoint. We had such a great experience we came back again for breakfast the next day. We also got the beans we enjoyed the most to brew at home. Food wise, we regretted not trying the toastie, but the pastries were pretty good. Personally, I enjoyed the cruffin (strawberries & cream mmmm!) more than the dense buns.

The staff are always up for a laugh, professional and generous in their attention. I've now sampled most of the menu. The vegan sausage rolls are to die for and the vanilla buns are definitely a family favourite. Whatever coffee you choose, it's going to be delicious and even their loose leaf herbal teas can warm your soul on a cold day. I feel like the vibe is a lot less snooty than some of the other establishments on the same road so I happily walk the extra 100 yards to support dog hair-free...
