Acropolis - Greek Street Food — Restaurant in Gateshead

Taken here for a meal for my birthday, and definitely won't be coming back. The mixed sharing starter platter arrived, but was partially frozen the stuffed vine leaves were actually frozen solid . They were out of stock on most of the drinks they normally provide including coke & wine . The toilet was out of order. Not great as all of us were pensioners who need toilets regularly?. 3 of us ordered Kleftiko and the other a mixed platter it honestly took 1hr 20mins before the meal finally arrived on the table ,we would have 100% got up and left but you pay upfront before you get your food. Apparently it was cooked fresh , and we were told the oven had broken down but others were constantly being served meals during the whole time we waited? strange . The mixed platter was basically a huge metal tray of cheap fries covered in little bits of barely warm reconstituted chicken . We have genuinely had similar food and much better quality from the local kebab takeaway. Never again paid £50+ a couple for such poor quality takeaway food . I used to love the Chicken Gyros at Acropolis, but recently, it’s become more frustrating than enjoyable. They overstuff the gyro in a pita that’s too small, making it almost impossible to eat without a tragic mess. The sauce spills onto the paper wrapping, covering your hands before you even take a bite. The filling is so wide that you can’t get a proper bite, forcing you to pick bits off the top and push it down just to make it manageable. Compared to some competitors, where you can enjoy the ingredients with ease, this feels more like a struggle. In the end, I gave up and had to empty it onto a tray. It’s disappointing because the flavours are great; the gyro just needs a better design to make it easier to eat. I've had this happen consistently, so I've stopped ordering this favourite of mine. They should also play some greek music to create an authentic atmosphere, not annoying...

We just ate here and I’ve got to say, this has got to be the most overpriced and disgusting restaurant (if you could call it that) I’ve ever ate at. Food tasted like it was a day old, portion sizes are small and overpriced.

We told the waitress the food was inedible and she simply shrugged and took it away, no offer of a refund. We literally tried a little bit of everything on the platter and it was all disgusting, so 90% of it was left.

The chef then started to laugh when she told him what we had said about the food.

The same company during “eat out to help out” was charging customers full price, but it was half price on the receipt, getting double back from the tax payer.

Awful business...
