Hotel Chocolat — Restaurant in Gateshead

After lots of feedback, I'm pleased to say Hotel Chocolat have gradually improved the allergen labling on their chocs over the years.

My wife has an intollerance to wheat flour. This means 90% of the assortment boxes are off my list when I look at the "ingredients" printed on the outside of the box.

However, I've learnt to compare the specific allergens for each choc type in an assortment box against it's individual choc pack, having discovered that most assortment boxes have only one or two chocs she cannot enjoy.

Recently, I discovered the enclosed 'menu' now associates icons for gluten, alcohol & wheat alongside each chocolate! Yeah!!!

The problem is that until I buy an assortment box and get access to the enclosed 'menu' (or laboriously do the cross compare) ... I cannot know if one chocolate in a box has an allergen... or they all do !!!!

Regular customer. Always pop in for drinks and ice cream. To collect orders which we did on Monday gone as well and was served by Christian and Sam. Christian very kindly packed the items in bags and my son was not sure about the flavour of hot chocolate I picked for him so Christian without any request or prompt went above and beyond and very quickly made a sample drink for my son who then liked and approved it. Staff like Christian are the reason why we like Hotel Chocolat. There is always calm and pleasant environment in the restaurant and collecting shopping is always a good excuse to enjoy favourite drink and ice cream. Just been into the store in the metro centre. Was greeted by a lovely young guy offering me a little chocolate bunny sample. Of course, I said yes! I asked another lovely young guy for some advice on the hot chocolate- he couldn’t have been more helpful. I told him I was buying an Easter treat for my sister-in-law who has just finished 5 rounds of radiotherapy. He popped some extra treats in the bag for her. He was so kind.
