Portobello — Restaurant in Gedling

My sister, wife and I all came here for a meal. This was our first time visiting. Upon entering we were greeted and seated very professionally and courteously, The atmosphere was very relaxing, not too dark, not too bright. The service from the waitresses was great, with very upper-class feeling treatment, which was not expected in a small eatery.

I had a starter of duck arancini, with sweet chilli sauce, these were by far the juiciest, most tender pieces of duck I've ever had, I was honestly so surprised at the tenderness, so 5 stars there!

As for my main, I went for the Chicago-style oven-baked, thin-base pizza comprising of chorizo, cheese, chicken and bbq base. It was the perfect texture, a firm crisp around the edges and crust, and a beautiful soft-bread inner dough.

Stringy cheese and no conflicting tastes, delicious to the last bite!

Overall our meals were beautiful and the staff were very friendly!

The price was a little high when I was first browsing, however ... after tasting the food, I can now say the prices were without a doubt justified!

AVOID We booked a table for a party for our friends wedding anniversary. Upon arrival it was very quiet for a Friday evening however music was blasting. One member of our party had a hearing infection and we was sat right under the speaker. We asked the waitress if she could turn it down slightly which she did, 5 minutes later it was turned up loud again. Again, we asked for it to be turned down. 50% of the party did not enjoy their mains. Two steak burger meals was sent back, dripping with grease and burgers were full of fat and gristle. Waitress apologised and was happy to replace with the same or different meal. They decided to order fish cake and pasta. Both meals were cooked in a hurry as pasta was hard and sauce watery, fishcakes were burnt and had a few fish bones inside. We have ate fishcakes there previously and was never that bad. We came here on Saturday night for the first time and I’m so glad we did! The staff were very friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The restaurant was clean with a good atmosphere. We managed to make it in time to order two cocktails off of the 2 for £10 menu, and both were lovely. However, more cocktail options in the future would be even better! We ordered two starters- the duck and NY chicken. We received the wrong starters initially and accidentally tried the cheese parcels (also in a crispy parcel like the duck) and omg these were incredible and we were sad to have to hand them back! For mains we had the steak burger and the carbonara. It was probably the best carbonara I’ve had - so cheesy and creamy - and I am absolutely gutted I couldn’t finish it all. The portions are very large and we were not prepared! Overall, what an amazing place with lovely food and service.
