Crew Mess Cafe — Restaurant in Gosport

I have used the Crew Mess weekly for years and always enjoy a great breakfast, served swiftly by Michelle at very fair prices. Hat's off to Michelle, who opens up seven days a week and keeps the Greasy Spoon cafe tradition alive. There are also healthy options for the more discerning. There is parking further up Mumby Road or parking is free for 1 hour in the Premier Marine marina carpark over the road (last time I checked). The review is entirely for selfish reasons; there's too few traditional English breakfast cafe's around...

Ordered breakfast for 4 . Breakfast very poor. Eggs were overcooked and rubbery. Bacon cooked more than once and hard and chewy. Coffee instant and hot chocolate disgusting. Worst breakfast for years. Cost 20p short of 30 quid and expected much better. Obviously understaffed as lady was all alone. Visited for an early lunch 11/03/23. Fairly quiet on this Saturday morning, probably because it's just off the main drag. Friendly welcome, good basic menu; we had bacon sandwich & tea x 2. Bacon was nice and thick. The place definitely has character, refreshing change from the samey chains on all the high streets. Worth seeking out for a no fuss...
