Obviously, this place provides some great views of Portsmouth and this is one of the reasons for visiting The Tower.
We attended during The Victorious Festival and it was lovely to see and photograph/ film this event from a unique perspective.
The queue was quite long and I think that it would be prudent not to force members of staff to ask for people's emails and post codes. It just adds to the length of time that people have to wait. I understand that it is for marketing purposes, but perhaps this is something that can be individually provided when visitors exit the building. I had to repeat myself quite a few times because of the noise and the process would be quicker if so many questions were not put to visitors. Although these staff members were extremely welcoming, people might be more willing to provide more information after having had the benefit of seeing the impressive and alluring view.
The glass floor was interesting and slightly scary to see. There was one brave girl who was doing cartwheels along the floor. The moment at which the purple lights were turned on was thrilling to see from this perspective and I do not know why The Tower is not open for longer hours. Although we did spend over an hour admiring the views, it would have been better for The Tower to have longer opening hours.
The very top, The Sky Deck, was slightly disappointing. There were people pushing prams who struggled to get upstairs. I felt really badly and I tried to help. What if someone is a Wheelchair User? What if someone is a Person with a Disability which makes it difficult to access the Sky Deck?
With the amount of money that people pay, I think that more could be done to make this part of the Tower more alluring. I am sure that someone can come up with a brilliant idea to make this part of The Tower more exciting. Perhaps a set of swings or similar?
The members of staff were lovely. The people in the lift did an excellent job in relation to engaging in conversations with people. For example, the man who was in the lift on 25 August 2024 at 16:00 was nice as was a young man named Albert who worked in the gift shop. Furthermore, there was a member of staff who I think was from Guatemala and he was extremely informative.
I can also understand why people have raised issues with the price of admission. While our time at The Tower was lovely, perhaps it might be a good idea for those in charge to inform the public about the costs of running the place to justify the costs of admission. If such information could be placed in close proximity to the tills and if the costs associated with admission were justified, this might lead people to better understand...
Read moreI visited the Spinnaker Tower on Sunday 28 July 2019, a weekend during the school holidays. The weather was hot and sunny. I was with a group of 7 adults and 27 children. This was my fourth or fifth visit. We bought combined tickets for both Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and the Spinnaker Tower, which is good value overall as there is a lot to do even though the tickets aren't cheap. Because the Spinnaker Tower is all about the views over the city and harbour you need to carefully consider the weather.
Upon arrival I was greeted by a member of staff at reception who was friendly and welcoming.
The Spinnaker Tower has a short video presentation about the history of the city and famous people who were born or lived there followed by a speedy ascent by lift to the first viewing platform where you can take in the views and walk over the glass floor if you choose. You can then take a stairway up to the next viewing platform which is open air. The views on a good day are spectacular and this is, by it's nature and location, a unique experience. When you come down by lift you can visit the gift shop and there is a good sized cafe which charges reasonable prices. The tower is at Gunwharf Quays, a nice, well kept shopping centre with plenty of places to eat and drink as well as leading and designer stores. This is a nice place to visit. We spent around an hour at the tower. We were aged 8-50 and everyone enjoyed it - there are plenty of photo opportunities.
I enjoyed my visit to the Spinnaker Tower and would come again.
For ease of access I give the tower 4 out of 5. It is easy to find the site using Google Maps and parking, getting to the right place and getting around was relatively simple though the car park is a short walk away.
For customer care I give the tower 3 out of 5. No one particularly stood out as giving exceptional customer experience, though everyone I met was very friendly and welcoming.
For visitor experience I give the tower 5 out of 5. This was a unique experience, a very pleasant visit and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good high vantage point, likes taking photographs or anyone who likes an interesting day out.
For their on-site facilities I give the tower 5 out of 5. Toilets were in a good condition and there was a good selection of refreshments available at standard tourist attraction prices.
For value for money I give the tower 4 out of 5. It's not cheap but combined with everything else there is to do in the area it's a good day out.
Overall I give the tower 4 out of 5 - I enjoyed my visit and would come and...
