A perfect viewing point for ships entering of leaving the harbour. Toilets are just beside the tower as are variety of studios and long established pubs and restaurants. When Royal Naval Ships leave or return to the harbour families will crowd the tower and surrounding ramparts and beach. Parking is very limited and only pay to park places are available. The round tower is easy walking distance from the Gunwharf Quays of Harbour station. Bus tours will drop you off within east walking distance too. The fish dock is nearby and you can walk East along the seafront for miles visiting play parks, Royal Naval Memorials or just watching the coming and goings of the ferries to and from the Isle of Wight and Caen in France. The only hovercraft service in the world is beside the funfair and a quick way over the Solent.

Wonderful lookout point in the heart of old Portsmouth.

If you are unable to use the stairs you can see the 360 view on our Millennium Promenade tour via the website. Great Vantage Point to see the Ships leaving and arriving. There is no disabled access to the tower, but is free to enter. The Round Tower one of the original Henry VII's fortifications and it was from this location that a chain ran over to a wooden fort on the Gosport side. Once raised it provided a formidable barrier to the inner harbour and Portsmouth Town. www.360tours.uk

Several years ago I worked for a building maintenance company that had the contract for service and upkeep of the Square Tower.

They had booked a job with us, but due to an emergency the engineer was unable to attend, so I had to call the management of the Tower to reschedule for the following day.

The woman I spoke to was utterly vile and appalling, screaming the worst possible things down the phone at me. She was so rude that I was left in tears. She was simply utterly hideous.

The worst thing is, I was a regular at events at the tower before this; I knew the woman I was speaking to and had spoken to her at length before. She had always been kind, polite, friendly and lovely. However the minute she didn't know who I was, and she only thought of me as 'just an assistant, she really showed her true colours.

You can always tell what people are like based on how they treat those they think are beneath them.

I've not gone back to the tower and have used other venues for...

Sorry don't know a great deal about the Tower. But its a great view point to watch ships and boats departing. It does have limited seating, and plenty of standing space, a telescope which you pay to use. There is parking near-by Inc street and car park and 5 near by disabled bays. However there are steep dark steps to get to Tower top, be aware of pigeons in there which if startled will flap about and make you jump lol!!. After first lot of steps next to the cafe, if you go left, there is a much bigger space all along the wall over looking the beach and steps down to beach or under the wall if raining. Only down side is I guess drunks or homeless like to take a P In these enclosed arches so a bit smelly, but they do clearly try and keep it clean as it's often wet from cleaning when...
