Read moreI wanted to buy some train tickets for travelling on the Isle of Wight, so I went to the ticket office in Portsmouth Harbour station. The man curtly told me I couldn't buy that ticket there (even though it's the same train company on the island as on the mainland), and that I'd have to buy from the ferry terminal. So I went to the ferry terminal, and of course their ticket office is closed for the duration of the pandemic! It seems nobody bothered to tell the miserable sod in the train station.
There was a while to wait for my ferry, so I decided to go back to the station ticket office to try again; there was a queue for the counter, so I tried the self-service ticket machine, and managed to buy the tickets I needed in less than two minutes; I was even offered a group saver discount I wasn't aware of. So much for the lie that the Portsmouth Harbour office couldn't sell...
Read moreA fantastic opportunity to visit Portsmouth Historic Harbour which has HMS Warrior, The victory, Mary Rose, and a submarine across the harbour which you need to catch a boat to get to.
The harbour tour was fantastic and great views of all the Royal navy aircraft carriers, which was 45 mins.
HMS victory is currently under refit and some of it was covered in scaffolding which was a shame. The highlight was the Mary Rose which was amazing as the new exhibition building was really good and seeing the wreak up close fully preserved and the information about her life was done really well.
