I love Brewdog in St Andrews and go there regularly. However, I have just had the worst experience I have ever had in a pub and I have been to a few. I am putting this review here in the hope that this is a one off that the management will address and I can continue to go to a pub that has usually had great staff, juicy beer, delicious food and good atmosphere. Here are my notes from tonight.

Brewdog. 14.05.2025. Thursday. Man (long light ginger hair) and Woman (tattooed left arm) on bar duty.

9.45pm. Told by man that pub was closing at 10pm and offered last drinks. Expressed surprise at 10pm closing time. Ordered 2 pints. These were our second drinks of the night. We were not drunk or disorderly.

9.55pm. Drinks delivered by man.

10.00pm on the dot. Told by woman to drink up and leave. Not very nicely.

10.10pm. Asked to leave by woman, not nicely at all. Said that I thought this was out of order as we had been sold drinks 15 mins ago and had not had time to drink them. Was told that our drinks could be taken away from us. Said that I thought there was some allowance for drinking up time so they couldn't actually ask us to leave. Was again told drinks could be taken away. Picked up my drink and held it tightly! Man came over and appeased. Said we could drink up quickly and leave. Woman said she had places to be and huffed off. Both staff then continued cleaning bar. Plenty of dirty looks from woman.

10.15pm left pub. Checked Brewdog St Andrews website. Closing time was 11pm on there. Went back into pub to show staff website closing times. Woman's behaviour became aggressive and abusive. She said they were closed. We said that we were just showing her the closing time on the website so it could be corrected. She then started firing abuse. Calling me entitled and being sarcastic and very unpleasant. We left, bemused and went to the Criterion, which...

Disappointed by Staff Attitude at BrewDog St Andrews

I’ve always appreciated BrewDog’s great atmosphere and student-friendly approach, but unfortunately, my experience tonight left me quite disappointed.

We visited for food and drinks and wanted to take advantage of the "buy one burger, get the second for £1" deal. When it came time to pay, I asked if we could pay for the deal first, then pay separately for the rest so that the student discount could be applied—something a staff member had kindly accommodated for us the previous week.

However, instead of a polite explanation of their policy, the staff member, Samantha, told us that our request was "very cheeky" and outright refused to make any adjustments. We understand that it may be against the rules to split the bill in this way, but given that a single burger costs around £15 without any sides, it would have been nice if the student discount could have at least been applied to the drinks.

I understand if there are strict policies in place, but the way this was handled felt unnecessarily dismissive and unwelcoming. It’s disappointing because BrewDog has always been great at supporting students, and this experience didn’t reflect that. I hope management can ensure that staff handle these situations with a bit more professionalism and courtesy...

The bartender was extremely rude to us. We are from the United States - maybe that’s what it was about? A women (late 30s) with sleeve tats, a short haircut, and glasses was very pleasant at first. Then I ask for 1 more beer politely and I thought we were getting along, so I was ready with a smile… She turned around very angry and rolled her eyes while flinging her hands out asking what I wanted.. aggressively. I asked if I annoyed her in some way and she said no, brushing it off - probably because I called her out a bit (I had tipped her on the first beer).

Next, I was thinking of getting some cans for tomorrow (golf) because the beer was very good! While picking some out, she said, “why the hell would you drink after 10pm?! Are you alcoholics?!”… I guess they stop serving at 10pm - I had no idea… if she would have told me, I’d apologize and thank her.

We left and went a bit down the street to St. Andrews Beer Co and had a great pint with fantastic service. I wouldn’t go here if this women is working. There was no reason to act that way at all! I honestly liked her at first, even though she ran past me mid sentence to hug a friend during my first order. I thought she was nice… nah…...

BrewDog: A Hidden Gem for Non-Drinkers. I'm not a drinker (ever, at all!!), but I recently discovered a hidden gem at BrewDog during my visit to Scotland. The chicken in the "Hoppy Meal" was absolutely phenomenal. Crispy, juicy, and perfectly breaded, it was the best chicken I've had in years!! And to my surprise, their beer options were equally impressive. I tried the "Iron Brew" beer as a suggestion from our waitress, Samantha, and and it was like liquid candy!!! I drank the whole thing!! I've never drank a beer before and I'm 31. As an American, finding ranch at this place was a big deal! It's a staple sauce for so many of us, and my friends and I were thrilled to finally find it!! The staff were all great, but Samantha, was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, suggesting the perfect pairing for my meal, and my friends as well. She was so kind and funny and really went over the top for us. If you're looking for a delicious and casual dining experience, BrewDog is a must-visit!

I come here quite often. I've become desensitised to their expensive food a bit. HOWEVER, their fries are taking the piss - £6 for a *cup* of fries (£4.95 + £1 spicy salt). I thought there was a mistake when they delivered. I'd suggest less stupid pricing, OR the menu say "small cup of chips". They could have at least one thing here that isn't an obvious cash-grab At least they're not making me overweight, you'd have to be rich ========================= 2025 and they're still sucking - sooooo expensive without be great. Tiny burgers without any fries: £14 + a range of expensive beers. As pointed out elsewhere - the most expensive place to drink their own Punk IPA ? They do have signs up for their "lunch club" which actually looked reasonable (£11 burger/side/beer) - but no, not doing that now. Gotta fleece the American tourists I suppose.

£15 for a burger that is really below average in terms of size + quantity of fillings is truly insane. I might be able to understand it if it came with fries/a side but really, a single small burger for £15? The only redeeming qualities was the fact that the fake chicken tasted unbelievably good, shame that's not even BrewDog's own stuff though but an external company instead. Staff were super nice but it's a shame this brand is running themselves into the ground alongside all the really rough stuff that came out last year. First time eating at a BrewDog, definitely the last.
