Chilis Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Great Britain

Chilis is the only genuine Indian restaurant in Newbury - the other Indian restaurants aren't actually run by Indians , they are either Nepalese or Bengali owned restaurants offering their twists on Indian dishes - this is not a negative however authentic Indian cooking is better from an authentic Indian owned resturant.

Having said that Chilis offers an above average indian food experience, the food is good and the selection is wide and varied. There is not a lot of room in the restaurant due to this a lot of food is ordered to take-away however if you go go their to eat then you have the benefit of good service, the staff are nice and polite...if your unsure of any dish they encourage you to ask, which is something often lacking in most Restaurants.

Quick Tip: If you are used to spicy food make sure you tell them to make it more spicy when you order. The food is made for a mild palette therefore lacking spice unless...

Well let’s start on a positive, the staff were very pleasant, and half the food was delicious, however the other half wasn’t nice , the dishes were not really as described going from past experience from other restaurants, the butter chicken was not, the rice wasn’t what I ordered, the starter was not worth half what they charged £18 the popadoms were great, though the dips were from a jar, my biggest moan is they charged £3.45 each for a can of coke and £5.95 for a bottle of thatchers gold, I can understand a company doubling the price of a product but not trebling it, also there prices are far to high, £7.95 for a tiny portion of potato and spinach sagalo, I definitely would not recommend purely because of the prices, Definitely...

The menu here is a little different, there is an emphasis on freshly cooked food which allows you to choose how you would like your curry (mild/medium/hot/extra hot) and means this is not 'fast' food, but I can definitely say the food is 100% worth the wait. The menu only contains a few of the 'classics' you would expect so you may choose to pick something unusual - I am so glad I did. The chicken was lovely, with flavour all the way through and the lamb was so tender I didn't need a knife to cut it as it melted in the mouth.
