Been there on a couple of Sundays so far to attend the pub quiz, and had amazing experiences both times! Located at cathays, not very far from the city centre and City Road, it's very accessible with free roadside Parking.
The pub gets crowded towards the evening after 7 PM - and could see almost all the tables booked (probably for the quiz) but I was lucky to find tables for us!
The pub has an amazing ambience with a lot of tables. The food and beer are good and worth the money! The service was also super quick despite the busyness.
There's an option to place the order and pay using a QR code from the tables which makes it super convenient and hassle-free.
My selections were: Drinks - Draught - Pint Shandy - Brains Barry Island Shandy (£4.65) Draught - Half Shandy - Brains Barry Island Half Shandy (£2.35) Pub classics - Mac & Cheese with BBQ Pipped Pork (£12.79) Pub Classics - Hunter’s Chicken (£10.79) Starters & Sharers - Chicken Wings (£4.79)
Given that there are a handful of items (Snacks/ Drinks) under £3 pounds, it's a good place for a cheap but good meal if one doesn't wish to spend much! Everything I tried tasted good, was fresh and filling.
Coming to the quiz - It happens every Sunday at 8.30-10.30 PM. It's hosted by Jamie - a very friendly Quiz master, and has an overwhelming participation. It's pretty long, 40 questions plus a curtain raiser round of another 20+ questions which - all on paper. The latter is distributed about half hour before the start of the actual quiz. A raffle also takes place with some good prices at stake.

My verdict:
The only con is that it can get quite noisy thanks to its older crowd (which certainly is not something in anyone’s control).
Nevertheless, it's Definitely one of the better pubs around, and highly...
Read moreIf you're ever in Cardiff and looking for a pub that combines great atmosphere with stellar service, look no further than The Crwys. Tucked away in the heart of the city, this cozy, friendly spot has quickly become one of the city's hidden gems. But what truly sets it apart is the charming service from Michael, the barman, who brings warmth and character to the whole experience.
Michael, who bears an uncanny resemblance to a hamster—thanks to his round, affable face and his endearing energy—brings a unique charm to the Crwys. His rapid-fire service and cheerful demeanor make every visit feel personal, as if you're being tended to by an old friend. He’s always quick with a joke or a friendly banter, instantly putting guests at ease and making the atmosphere feel like home.
The pub itself has a relaxed, unpretentious vibe, with classic pub décor and a diverse selection of drinks, from local ales to creative cocktails. Whether you're grabbing a pint with friends or enjoying a quiet evening on your own, Michael’s attentive service and delightful presence make the experience unforgettable. If you're lucky enough to have him behind the bar, expect to leave with a smile, a full glass, and perhaps even a new favorite local.
In short, The Crwys is a fantastic spot, but it’s Michael’s infectious personality that truly makes it stand out—he might look like a hamster, but his service is nothing short...
Read moreOh where to start, I arrived at the Crwys on a rainy Thursday evening with a hunger only a steak and ale pie could quench. As I walked through the door I was greeted by a stunningly handsome man (with rather peculiar thumbs) named Zach I do believe. Anyway, after ordering a Guinness (which seemed to have been constructed by the gods themselves), I was informed of something called Guinness challenge. To put this into the simplest form, this challenge has changed my life. I can’t go anywhere near a Guinness without trying the challenge. It’s gotten to the point that my wife is threatening divorce and my kids are accusing me of faking pack openings, I don’t even know what those are! I’ve tried to stop but I can’t, the thrill of lowering a Guinness glass and seeing the bottom of the head splitting the bottom of the harp and top of the G is invigorating. there’s so many things in life which bring me joy, but nothing compares to the Guinness challenge, so thank you Zach (although you might have ruined my life, I have found a new sense of purpose).
All in all, the steak and ale pie was to die for and, the service by Zach was as elegant as Mother Teresa hitting the griddy. I can’t recommend this establishment or the stud...
