Dear MBM or MSc Business Management students,
I am sharing my experience at Cardiff Business School or (CARBS) to those in the know. which I hope will provide valuable insights for prospective students, especially international Students. One notable aspect is the large class sizes, often exceeding 200 students, which may not be to everyone's preference. A significant portion of the class, approximately 85-90%, is comprised of students from two countries, which may not reflect the diversity one might expect. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that some students face challenges with English communication While the staff's commitment to student success is evident, the large class size remains a drawback. It would be beneficial if the school considered restructuring the classes into smaller modules to enhance the learning experience. Although tutorials and workshops offer smaller group settings, a reduction in the main lecture size is preferable. Group work is a staple of the curriculum, designed to simulate real-life teamwork. Success in these activities can feel like a coin toss; you might find yourself part of a group where all members contribute equally, or you might end up with only 2-3 active participants. The school also provides career development opportunities like job fairs and sessions to enhance your CV and LinkedIn profile. While beneficial, it is unfortunate that some of these events often conflict with the MBM class schedule, which can be frustrating. to conclude, Cardiff Business School has amazing professors. However, it is important to know the they focus on financial gains more by admitting a large number of students, some of whom may lack the necessary academic background for a master's level class. Please consider these aspects before...
Read moreAs a parent I am so disapointed that my eldest who attends Cardiff University has almost all lectures and seminars online and is only entitled to something like one 45min face to face session once a fortnight and even some of these are online. Also quality of the recorded lectures are poor in that many are just a lecturer reading a PowerPoint and others where audio is poor quality and hard to understand. Questions asked to lecturers when stuck were met with 'please ask the student shared area this question'.
I really do not understand why Cardiff Uni is taking this path, while other unis are not. As a scientist I understand the pandemic and support limiting unneccesary contact when needed. However I feel that when schools are open Uni students should have face to face as pre pandemic Cardiff Uni is not. In comparison Swansea Uni History course lectures said the lectures and seminars will all be face to face next year (gov rules allowing ) as this is best for the students. Cardiff has said online is likely to continue. I will not allow my other child to attend Cardiff and If my child could move Uni's without restarting I would opt for that. I feel that may 9 grand tuition fees are wasted and the Uni is saving money hand over foot and the value for money I am getting...
Read moreThe School of Dentistry at Cardiff University has been one of the most disappointing and damaging experiences of my life. As an international student, I paid full fees in good faith, yet after only one term I was blocked from continuing my studies. Despite being denied access to teaching, I was still pressured to pay for the following term under the threat of visa cancellation. When I refused to pay for a service I could not receive, my visa was cancelled and I was forced to leave the UK.
This has left me with severe stress, anxiety, and even depression. The so-called "student support" is non-existent, communication is almost impossible, and no one takes real responsibility for the harm they cause. The Dentistry faculty, in particular, shows little care for student welfare — once they take your money, you are simply abandoned.
If you are an international student, especially in Dentistry, please think twice before joining this university. You will be treated as a source of income, not as a...
