Great food, excellent service! We've never been to a sushi restaurant before so, like a lot of people I imagine, we weren't sure what to expect or what to order. We love Thai and Chinese food so were keen to try this and support a new, different, restaurant in Ripon. We're not sure we did things in the right order but had Chicken Gyoza, Spicy Salmon Uramaki and Tuna Nigiri as a starter and E Ramen with a Spicy Kimchi Broth and Chicken Teriyaki. The Gyoza were the best we've had, the Uramaki, really tasty and the Nigiri simple but excellent. Be careful of the wasabi that comes for extra flavour, it's vicious. The ramen was great, a house special with all the meat and prawn options and the Chicken Teriyaki, perfectly tender and flavoursome. All appeared to be freshly prepared to a very high standard and there was plenty of food. There aren't too many tables so, whilst we didn't book, we would recommend it, we went early on Thursday in January. They weren't able to serve alcohol as, having relatively recently opened, they don't yet have a licence. An optional 10% service charge is added but due to the the courteous and efficient service we had no trouble paying this plus a little bit more. The restaurant and toilets are all bright and spotlessly clean, a little too bright for me, I'd prefer slightly moodier lighting, hence the loss of a star but this could be seen as harsh. This is a very welcome addition to Ripon, a vibrant city with lots of food options but this adds something new and much needed in our opinion, we will definitely be going back to explore the menu further. We wish all at E Sushi the best of luck and really hope...
Read moreMe and my partner decided to dine in tonight and I have to say it was a fairly mixed experience due to the disparity in food and customer service. No complaints on the food end, it was amazing, but we were given the wrong food. We'd been previously told by a friend who came to order with numbers (as that's what he'd been told). We did so, ordering a 52 (katsu) along with some other things, but recieved the 50 (e sushi platter) instead. Wouldn't have been an issue if we'd been offered options on what to do. Rather than the typical being told what we can do in the situation, we were asked what we'd like to do? In a very deadpan and standoffish manner. Now to me this comes off as a bit of a manipulative question as it not only put us in a negative connotation but also put us on the spot, and we just took it and ordered the katsu again. But there is a £14 difference in the cost of the meals. AND the waitress looked at us multiple times as we looked at the food in confusion and were quietly discussing the fact it was not what we ordered -- and previously my partner had been saying he was excited for the katsu. I'd have expected at least an enquiry into why we looked confused. In total, we should've had a £37 bill with a service charge (which was not previously communicated) but it ended up being £64 due to a mistake that was not our own. My partner doesn't like fish so we didn't even have the option of not ordering again if he wanted to be able to eat. Overall, it's a great experience if you get given the correct thing. Just state the number AND name to avoid getting given the...
Read moreFinally - a decent sushi place only 10 minutes drive away! This will be a weekly lunch treat for me instead of the truly manky stuff otherwise known as supermarket sushi. The menu covers most bases including hot meals, and the portion sizes are pretty good too. I went on a very quiet Thursday afternoon to get a takeaway so I can't really comment on service, though my order was dealt with quickly and the staff I did speak with were very friendly. I ordered a couple of Nigiri combos and an eel Hosomaki for good measure, so a nice wide selection of fish and seafood. They were yum. (For info I really liked the Sea bass Nigiri - great texture and nice ozone taste). Not cheap but compared to supermarket stuff this is a different level altogether. I shall be visiting again to try more...
