I ordered a vegan sausage roll here. The woman serving me said she would heat it up for me. When she gave it back to me I asked her again if it was a vegan one and she said it was.

5 mins later, I bit into it and realised it was pork. I went back to the shop to check to see if it was the right one. Another woman (who looked like the manager) served me this time and just said “sorry”, acting like it was no big deal.

I then tried to tell her how upset I was by this. I explained that I had been a vegan for 2 years and never planned to eat meat ever again. She just shrugged her shoulders and said “mistakes happen”. She did apologise, but it felt totally insincere. She made no attempt rectify the situation.

I tried to explain that people need to know what’s in their food. If it had been someone with an allergy, they could have been seriously ill. She just replied with “But do you have an allergy?”.

She didn’t seem to care whatsoever. All she said was “What can I do about it?”. I suggested that they have a proper way of labelling food or something in place that would stop this happening again. And she was totally dismissive about changing anything.

When I walked out the shop, she said “have a good afternoon” in a sarcastic way.

I understand that mistakes can happen and I could’ve forgiven them, had they been even the tiniest sympathetic towards me. Whilst the woman did say sorry, it was very clear she...

Originally went there for coffee and a sweet pastry, and both were very good. The pie selection caught our eyes after we'd paid so we joined the queue again to sample some of them. The broccoli and cheese pie and the vegetable curry pie were first class. We saved the macaroni pie for the end expecting it to be the piece de la resistance (and we are macaroni pie connoisseurs after all) and while it was indeed a very good pie - great pastry, a crispy top and excellent flavour - it lacked the sauciness inside that would have given it full marks. A solid 4/5 for that particular pie, but the establishment gets 5 stars as on average everything...

We stopped in here early on a Sunday morning shortly after opening and the experience was great. It is take-away only but I personally think this is great because service is quick and there are plenty of places near-by to enjoy the food (weather dependent). We ordered a bacon and black-pudding roll, cheese scone and flat white coffees to have then and a pork and black-pudding sausage roll to take home for lunch.
