The Clootie Dumpling — Restaurant in Scotland

2nd time I've been here,(the first time I thought I was overcharged but turns out the prices on the menu outside were obviously wrong - £17 for two soups and 2 coffees was expensive but it was all very good quality so not really a complaint but advice for those on a budget or larger groups) I was very unimpressed this time and actually didn't have any food or drink. There were only tables available outside which was fine, but we were very obviously forgotten about. Again, fine, these things happen and there seemed to be only 2 staff who were very busy. After sitting for 15 minutes, I went in to at least ask for a menu, to be totally ignored by the waitress (twice) as I hovered about looking like I needed help. In the end, we just walked out, past the man who originally seated us, he murmured at us but didn't ask if we were okay or why we were leaving, or apologise at which point the situation could still have been salvaged with even an apology or, actually, anything. I didn't really want to make a scene as had my mother with me and didn't want to be 'that guy' so didn't make a complaint there and then. But have to admit I was very disappointed, especially as I've worked in food service myself and know I would have tried my best to rectify what was, to me, obviously a case of poor customer service. A shame as its a lovely place, with a good menu and excellent quality food. I wouldn't try to dissuade anyone from visiting but I probably won't visit again myself. 3 stars for location, atmosphere, menu,...

The only place to sit was outside, which was fine, but after 20 minutes no one had brought us a menu, or even come out to take an order, obviously we'd been forgotten, but my daughter went inside, to see what was happening, and was totally ignored twice by a waitress. So we decided to leave, the waiter who showed us outside to our table, walked past us and never said a word, he must have realised we were leaving, but never even offered an apology. Lovely experience and the clootie dumpling was excellent! We couldn't understand why it was so quiet whilst we were there, everyone else missed a real treat. The coffee was great and the cheese scones beautiful, just as good as the ones I make when I'm at home!! The cakes looked amazing but unfortunately I've been diagnosed type 2 diabetic so wasn't able to sample them!! Best of luck to you both and will certainly call in again if we are ever in Dunkeld on our trips...
