I entered the pub just as it opened on Sunday, so plenty of seating was available. The young barkeep instructed me to “Take any table, we’ll get menus to you.” After about 10 minutes, my husband joined me at my table and I mentioned that the group that sat down after me had already been approached by waitstaff. My husband raised his index finger to try to get the attention of a young waiter who was walking past and studiously avoiding making eye contact. The waiter came over and gruffly berated him, telling us that the previous night he’d not served any of the people who called him over like that. He had such an attitude that after we placed our food and drinks order we both Googled “is an index finger hand signal offensive in Scotland?” Apparently not. Turns out the waiter was just surly.

I ordered the scallops in a blue cheese sauce, but they arrived with garlic butter. That was probably a better choice, the blue cheese would have overwhelmed them. They were very tasty, but the scallops had not been freed from the shell, and I was surprised to have to cut them myself. The sweet potato soup of the day was excellent, however my onion ring order was forgettable-- they were factory produced, recently emerged from a frozen bag.

My husband had the sourdough baguette with chicken mayo filling, and the soup from the Light Lunch menu, and really enjoyed both.

The food was good and the menu had some nice offerings… but the service was mediocre. Actually, no, the service was bad, the place seems like it is run by children, and one with an immature attitude. Too bad the adults were not in charge of lunch...

It seems this place does not know there is a global pandemic. Squeezed in to a small outside seating area, we had pre-booked a table. The 4 people sitting at it were moved on, approximately what felt to be 60cms behind me on the steps.

There was no social distancing, covid no longer exists here. The group of 6 sitting behind me had been on the beers. Laughing, shouting, swearing, regalling stories of other lads' holidays. There was no proper seating for them, loitering on steps, as long as they were spending money Markie Dans didn't seem to care.

The food is at it is. Its cheap food, cooked well, better than a Wetherspoons but I doubt people come here for a meal. They come for the drinks and have a cheap meal alongside.

Its decent value for what you get. If you want a £6 burger, that's what you get. The full bill was reasonable, my main issue is the lack of social distancing or any attempt to control it. I felt uncomfortably close to a group of lads on the beers. I know better than to challenge this situation and so we ate and left as fast as we could.

As a pub, I would definitely come here, decent prices, great beer, good service. If it wasnt covid times, I'd be here for a few pints. Until then, I'll leave it for the people who seem immune to a...

After seeing such positive TripAdvisor reviews we decided to try this place today. What a disaster. We waited over an hour for our food, half of which was then delivered to the table next to us (who started eating it!) so we had to request it to be sent back and made fresh. Another 15 mins later the food arrived. Burgers were over cooked and dry, sweet potato fries were warm (not hot). Cheese arrived on a burger that was requested without cheese. Chips that were ordered didn't arrive and had to be asked for. I then found a hair under my fries. It really was such a shame as generally speaking, the food seemed good quality and could have been good. Judging from other reviews it has been good before too. Maybe it was just too busy for them to cope tonight? We had thought about getting dessert before we ordered but after such a disappointing experience we chose to go elsewhere. On asking for the bill, we saw they'd given us a 20% discount off the food without us asking/saying anything so couldn't really...

My experience at this Scottish pub remains unparalleled. Here’s why: • The pub boasts a stunning decor, an impressive selection of classic whiskies and beers, and knowledgeable staff. • The food was delicious, but the portions were massive—I jokingly said my only negative review would be their generosity! My “baby” mac and cheese was anything but small. • The fish and chips? Simply unmissable. • Andrew, our gracious host, elevated the experience by offering us samples of Scottish lagers and whiskies—every tourist’s dream. • We also had the pleasure of chatting with friendly locals, Ian and Brian, whose warmth made it hard to say goodbye. In short, generous portions, fantastic food, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere. A must-visit!

Beer garden out front is popular as there are limited tables due to COVID19 spacing. Indoors it has a variety of tables and booths. Table service means you get served quite quickly, staff are pretty busy but serve you with a smile. It’s a late opening bar so if you’re in for later drinks it can get noisy ( even with no music playing ) as the locals like to use this bar as a stopping point on their bar crawl. ( screeching and raucous young women can get annoying after a few hours!) Food was served late into the evening and looked hearty and well priced. Definitely a bar to visit if you are visiting for a few days.
