Probably the best selection of ciders and beers in Northampton.
We lived in Northampton for three years before we fibally discovered The Olde England. Im a dry cider drinker, and its very difficult to find a decent cider in Northampton; its usually Strongbow or some overly sweet berry thing. The Old England has at least a dozen, if not a couple of dozen ciders available. There are English fruit wines and Fentiman's soft drinks too. The prices are reasonable, the service is top notch (recommendations for drinks are spot on).
We first came when the upper floor had smaller booths (a covid thing), and i somewhat preferred that as a way of having a private conversation. However, the dividers have now gone, leading to a move convivial atmosphere. The cool cellar still has dividers for that private space, although the ventilation could be a bit better.
I've not tried the weekly folk nights, but i do enjoy the efforts that have been made to encourage conversation amd community, rather than just throwing in big TVs and Sky Sports. This is a great place to enjoy a drink and a...

It kept playing on an Ipad with the volume on, which is very annoying in a supposedly quiet pub without fruit machines. Both times as soon as he left the room the volume went back on, he then started to play music on it, and talk loudly at the game. I was going to have some food and more beer, but gave up and left, as it certainly was not what I...
Read moreQuaint little pub with beautiful decor and great real ale selection. Often has something going on such as folk music, history talks, board games, and craft groups. Food is absolutely stunning. No frills, affordable, and very well done. The barman is friendly and attentive and does not allow any nonsense to spoil the lovely atmosphere of the pub. (Also if you like silly puns he's your guy). I had my 30th birthday there and it was absolutely wonderful. Literally my favourite place to go in Northampton. If it ever closed I would...
