"Sister cafe" to The Apple Tree near Land's End (mother at the Apple Tree, daughter at the Orange), with the same standard of cakes and coffee, so we would guess the other food is just as good too, though we didn't get to try anything other than cake here.
Lovely, bright, slightly quirky interior - bar stools round a baby grand piano, being used as a table, made me smile; a wonderful, large table, whose top was simply a polished slab of wood, complete with bark in places; a sofa so comfortable I could have stayed there all day; lots of different potted plants (real - why DO so many places have fake plants I wonder, no matter how good or expensive they are they invariably look fake, and many plants take very little looking after) and lots of posies of crocosmia (which grows wild along the lanes here) echoing the orange colours of one of the walls.
Outside is a sunny terrace, with a view down to the harbour, where dogs appear to be welcome.
It was a very welcome refreshments stop on our walk from Penzance. Having rested and consumed coffee & large portions of cake we strolled round the village before catching the little bus back to Penzance.
I would definitely whole-heatedly recommend it if you are...
Read moreWe’d visited this café before and really enjoyed it, so we decided to return for an evening meal. Unfortunately, this time was a very different experience.
When we arrived, the kitchen was closed (it was meant to open at 5), so we waited a little while before checking at the bar. We were told they weren’t yet taking orders and that there were “lots of bookings,” but they couldn’t say when the kitchen would actually open. Since you order at the bar, there was no clear way of knowing when food service had started.
The staff were not particularly friendly and seemed reluctant to give clear information, which made the situation even more frustrating. We were at our table 50 minutes, during which it seemed no bookings arrived, and there was no sign of the kitchen opening. In the end, we left, feeling as though our custom wasn’t really wanted. If this was the case, honesty is the best policy.
It’s a real shame as we know the food here can be good, but on this occasion the lack of communication, organisation, and hospitality left us very...
Read moreWent on a Cornwall Roadtrip and thought „Mousehole“ sounds lovely, let‘s stop there. Did a walkaround the village and suddenly stopped in front of Orange. „Let‘s check if they have something vegan on the menu“ not knowing that it‘s all plant based. Had the best food, location, Interieur and service experience in all of Cornwall. „Would the Sofa be alright?“ and „You can sit at the piano.“ where sentences we heard the lovely people working there say to other people coming in, while sipping our (phenomenal) Chai Latte and trying to choose 2 small plates each (was hard cause everything sounded delicious). Food came, looked like it came straight out of a food magazine and tasted 12/10. Tried to share between the two of us but ended up fighting over the last crumbs on the plate. Even got a glimpse of the sea from my seat and pet a dachshund on my way out. Best lunch experience by far - would come back to the UK just to visit Orange...
