We stayed here a short while ago in a deluxe bedroom and the service from the staff was really good, it was very attentive. Staff serving behind the bar as well as in the restaurant were all on hand and very friendly.||The hotel is situated outside Torquay and Babbacombe and it is not easily accessible to either unless you use a car. You can walk along the coastal footpath but that is a long walk with a huge steep decent down hill from the hotel and a walk of at least 30 minutes across the coastal path then another humongous uphill hike to either Babbacombe or Torquay. You need to be very fit to do it otherwise you will have to use your car and be prepared to navigate the tortuous tiny, bendy, country lanes to get to where you want to go.||The hotel is old, quirky and the cliental are mainly elderly. There are no pools, inside or outside and no spa. No lift and no telephones in the bedrooms (at least not ours).||Having said that, there is a pleasant terrace at the back of the hotel from which you can just about see the sea.||On an honesty note:-||Our deluxe room was number 6 and I do really think we got the short straw. It was advertised as "deluxe and exotic" but it was really only the size we would have expected in any superior room. The bathroom was big with a roll top bath which was totally unimportant to us since we prefer to shower.||The room was advertised as having a balcony and overlooking the front garden. That was really, really stretching the truth. Our deluxe room overlooked the steep road down to the beach, the main entrance to the hotel and, more significantly, the car park. ||There was no front garden to speak of and who wants to sit on a balcony overlooking a car park? ||Unlike other rooms there was no view of the sea.||More to the point, the main wall in the bedroom constituted a door out on to the balcony but there were no windows to open to let air into the bedroom other than a half window in the door and the door itself. ||The room was stiffling hot. We could open the balcony door but then it swung around in the wind, banging all night long and let in all the outside noise from the road and the car park and then the dustbin lorry which came into the front at 6am. It wasn’t a deluxe room in our opinion although we paid extra for it.||In summary, the hotel was pleasant, in an out of the way location, the service from the staff was excellent, the food was good ( I wouldn’t go as far as to say excellent, but it was good) and we we enjoyed our stay but we would have enjoyed it more had we been in...

Last minute bank holiday get away for 2 nights. Chose a room with hot tub on a dinner bed & breakfast plan. Arrived mid afternoon & our room which was attached to the side of the hotel with a private gate for access was great but very dated decor which was fine as it fitted well with the age of the hotel. First night used the shower but couldn’t stay in there long as the water was (at best Luke warm so quickly got out, my husband who is a plumber explained that the pressure of the cold was wrong) The telephone in our room was out of order so we waited until we went to dinner to report it. Lady on reception said it would get sorted that night. Next morning husband used shower with the exact same problem as before so I just had a wash & reported it again & explained to reception that the cold water was overriding the hot. Was told by reception that they would have to put instructions on how to use the shower in the room. The food in this hotel was fabulous great choice & very tasty. Came back for a shower before dinner but once again husband said nothing changed with the shower so once again I only had a wash & reception said the owner ( who was also the chef would take another look after lunch service) Next morning before checkout tried shower again the shower was still the same so gave up & went to breakfast which was lovely & tasty but would have been better after a shower. At checkout we told reception AGAIN that I had only had 1 Luke warm shower the whole time we stayed there. Explained again what my husband said the problem was but reception said we probably were not using it right. No offer of compensation for the lack of shower facilities only an apology & a promise to put up instructions for the next guest. Got home & later that day took a call from reception to say that yes my husband was right & the shower problem had now been fixed. ( too late for us) still no offer of compensation though so we will not be returning to this...

This was a perfect weekend stay. Friday to Monday||On the Friday night we attended a 'Murder Mystery Evening'. This was a an excellent evening of entertainment with delicious food and drink. |Breakfast every morning was of an excellent standard and there was every thing could could possibly want|On the Saturday it was my wife's birthday and in the restaurant that evening she was presented from the hotel a 'Happy Birthday work of art from the kitchen. Which was a very nice gesture much appreciated. Our steaks where cooked to perfection and they just melted in your mouth.|On the Sunday we had arranged a family and friends 'Sunday Lunch' which was gorgeously cooked and plentiful. We were sat in the conservatory which has beautiful views.||This hotel is perfect in many ways, on the outskirts of Torquay in Maidencombe. It's ambience is lovely, the public rooms are extremely relaxed but very well appointed. The conservatory and restaurant has wonderful views and the outdoor terrace overlooks the lovely gardens and the sea.||One of the best things is the staff and the service they offer. They are all very attentive, polite and work extremely hard to ensure your stay is faultless. The service is excellent but not in your face. It is a small team but they know how to make your stay special.||We stayed in Room 1 the Garden Room Suite which was lovely. It had a wonderfully large four poster bed, which was very comfortable. The room was very well appointed with sea views. The luxurious bathroom had both a bath and a walk-in shower furnished to a very high standard. The 'Jacuzzi' hot-tub was used daily. It was spotlessly clean and well maintained and of course had lovely sea and garden views.||This is one of those hotels that are becoming rare, it is individual, very well appointed, small and personable with an excellent restaurant and staff. One that we hope to return to.||Thank you for a wonderful...

If only we lived nearer. It is five and a half hours door to door, but it absolutely worth the journey. Orestone Manor is family run and this is evident for the moment that you arrive. A warm welcome with little fuss from Catherine and we were settled in our lovely room, overlooking Lyme bay with P&O Ventura and Cunard Queen Mary anchoured in the bay due to lockdown. Because of Covid restrictions meal times were a little regimented but absolutely understandable in the circumstances. Orestone Manor has two dining rooms, a conservatory overlooking a terrace and Lyme bay beyond and a more traditional dining room. During our stay we dined in both rooms but preferred the airy conservatory. We discovered that Dad one of the owners was the chef and this really shone through in the quality and the consistency of the food. I loved the depth of flavour in his sauces that demonstrated the classical training of the chef. With many of today’s younger chefs the plate of food may be a picture but the flavours do not always deliver. Not the case at Orestone Manor, The flavours are classical and the dishes given a modern interpretation. I could not fault any of the dishes we ate over our three night stay. The staff who are not family members are very well trained and nothing is too much trouble for them. They are obviously treated well, are loyal to the owners and take pride in Orestone Manor. Breakfast was equally good, eggs cooked exactly as asked for which is rarely the case in many hotels around the world. The late Albert Roux always got trainee chefs to cook eggs at their interview before giving them a job. We were sad to leave and even sadder that we do not live closer.

Pleasant hotel tucked away Room was pleasant. Wifi availability was poor Breakfast was good, good service The only dampener is the manner in which the reception behaved. They should be sent on some training for customer service as front of house is of critical importance. This was a real negative element to the hotel and definitely a reason to stay somewhere else. As a result, I do not recommend this hotel. Edit following hotel response: Some of the reviews seem to suggest there is a theme, ie it is not so unusual. One gentleman that greeted us of an evening was delightful. The ladies serving breakfast equally pleasant. However, the receptionist was in a different category. Perhaps you could invest in some mystery guest assessments to validate. Also. You may wish to insist that commercial vehicles do not operate in the small hours of the morning, as our room backed on to the carpark and being awoken by a commercial vehicle manoeuvring with amplified 'CAUTION VEHICLE REVERSING' blaring from the vehicle is wholly unacceptable. And if we want to expand on the experience, the cleanliness left much to be desired, we found shelled pistachio nuts on the carpet under the coffee table. Therefore lacking in terms of housekeeping. And the water served at breakfast was absolutely foul. I suspect something must have happened as the chilled 'filtered ' water in class bottles in the fridges had been replaced with small sealed mineral water bottles. Some minimum quality control system should be in place.
