Ullapool. A pretty little town. We were on the way up north and came here for lunch. Read good things about this little place. And still were suprised about how popular this place is. A pretty big line...15-20mins waiting time. We got lucky and got some seats within a few minutes. Be prepared to share your table, since there's a a lack of space for all customers.
But the wait is worth it. Who knew that some of the best oysters we've ever had in our lives would be served here? Tasty, fresh, creamy. Brillant oysters. Nothing else to say. Speechless.
But other items were great as well. The shrimp were nice and fresh. The langoustines a real treat. Fantastic item to order. And the fried fish sandwich hot, crispy and oh so tender. Amazing fish and seafood that gets served here. And for fair prices. You can tell the products are fresh and the whole team prepares everything fresh. Highly enjoyable food in a busy, but nice atmosphere.
The only thing that fell a bit short was the chowder. Was a bit of a fusion-chowder with asian influences. We love asian food, but this one didn't really impress us. But surely enjoyable for some folks.
But all in all it is an amazing place to grab some real and real fresh fish and seafood. Not to be missed....
Read moreWe were recommended the seafood shack in Ullapool as we were doing the north coast 500. A friend had recently done a working holiday in the area, and said we should check it out. It far surpassed any expectations. We had the fish wrap and the languistines, both of which were absolutely superb, probably the finest dining we experienced in the highlands, the flavours were completely on point, allowing the taste of the seafood and fresh herbs and salad to stand out independently of each other. Would give 6 stars if I could.
It is obviously well known, as it was busy when we visited, but we managed to get a table after a short wait. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the place has a nice atmosphere to it.
Plenty of parking around Ullapool to choose from, and can park quite close by if you're lucky enough to find a spot. Wasn't a far walk from the harbour front.
Unfortunately didn't get any pictures of the food as it was devoured within minutes of touching the table, rest assured you won't be disappointed if you are a...

The haddock wrap was the best battered fish I tried in the UK. The fish was so fresh, didn't smell fishy at all and has a firm texture. Even my spouse who is normally not a fish lover likes it.
The scallop tasted naturally sweet with no "bitter iron" flavour associated to mollusks. The crab claws were soft yet firm. I also loved their spicy seafood soup that got a real kick (even for someone who grew up eating chili sauce).
The only downside is that, because the place was so popular, it could be quite hard to get a sitting spot and some dish could be sold out fast. Other than that, they are acceptable measures to keep the price low (eg. food-truck-like service where you queue to place an order, then your order number will be called when the food is ready. This is not a seat-in restaurant with a maître d bringing you...
