Starboy you no do well oh! Itâs one thing to look great on Instagram but then another actually frictionlessly taking and delivering food orders efficiently let alone to scale-up and increase volume đ·
Enjoy the Nigerian cuisine but not the service I get from the restaurants due to a lack of empathy or consideration towards the disabled customer (church-mind does not apply here for some reason).
Starboy was recommended by a friend so I patronized the business when it was operating out of a food van in a pub car park in South Ockendon. Even back then it wasnât easy getting assistance so, Iâd have to bring someone along with me to ensure things went okay.
Drove an hour to the new shop in Grays yesterday as I promised to visit and I fancied some Suya. Called đthrough my order, and checked it would be okay attend to me in the car parked just outside the restaurant and was told reluctantly it was (given a 30min timeframe) so I sat and waited. Saw customers troop in and leave with their food and no sign of mine, no signal to say they were working on mine. At the hour mark and tired of seeing customers I was ahead of leave with theirs I gave up and called it a day and set off on my hour drive home.
Sadly this experience is the norm for me personally when it comes to interacting with Nigerian restaurants; I never leave feeling great. I have always believed Nigerians were pure business minded people so I am shocked regularly as I donât see a business sense for turning a paying and repeat customer away like this. It would be fair to ask whether this experience would be the same regardless of the type of food I would go for generally but I can tell you it is NOT. I can order a Chinese take away now, pop round đ there, ringđ and tell them âI am collecting my order and would need help bringing it to the car parked right outside the shop, because I have a problem walkingâ and confidently know theyâd oblige and the whole thing would be over in 5mins and theyâd be a smile involved too (to me thatâs real business). Same thing if I go Indian or Turkish đčđ· or cafĂ©s, in fact the manager of a Sri Lankanđ±đ° restaurant I go to gave me his mobile number so I could pre order and heâd get me attended to in the car when I stop outside (with great politeness and smiles). But my own people at Starboy donât seem to give a damn, what a great let down! But on a positive note, their Instagram page is đ„ lit so thatâs all that matters I guess.
I thought that business was simply to get the customer what they want, take the money, smile and make them want to come back (the McDonald way) but oh no not here at Starboy. Anyway, from now on Iâm sticking to places that are happy to see me and my money from now on. Sorry...
Read moreI walked into the shop and immediately felt unwelcome, as I noticed stares and what seemed like dirty looks from the staff. When I went to order with the manager, I received the same negative attitude and was told it would be a 30-minute wait for just one shawarma, which cost ÂŁ12. After waiting the full 30 minutes, I was told it still wasnât ready, so I ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes.
I did notice that only one staff member seemed to be doing all the work, which I felt bad about, but thatâs not my fault as a customer. While the shawarma itself was decent, for ÂŁ12, I expected a much better experience overall. Between the poor customer service, excessive wait time, and underwhelming food, I donât plan...
Read moreStarboy Restaurant is absolutely immaculate! I thoroughly enjoyed the palm wine and the meat platter. The quality, especially of the meat, was outstanding. As a Nigerian, Iâm usually very picky and only trust my mumâs cooking, so I was sceptical at first. But this food completely surprised me. The flavours just kept coming and every bite was delicious.
The chef is clearly extremely talented, and I would highly recommend Starboy to anyone. Whether youâve never tried Nigerian food before or you already love African cuisine, this is the perfect place to experience it. And let me say it again: the meat platter is an...
