The Admiral Benbow — Restaurant in Great Britain

Thanks to the pandemic etc, I hadn't been in this excellent town centre pub for a while, so had forgotten just how good it is. While other establishments adopt gimmicks to try to attract new custom, the Admiral Benbow sticks to the values of a traditional English pub and is all the better for it - great atmosphere (music kept in the background, not loud like in other pubs) very friendly staff, wide range of well kept ales, charming little beer garden. The recipe seems to work, because when my wife and I visited on a Wednesday night, The Admiral was bustling, with customers of wide ranging ages, all having a great time, whereas other pubs in the town seemed to be very quiet, in comparison. Used to be one of the best and friendliest pubs in town. Now there’s a hostile manageress who doesn’t entertain anyone who isn’t a regular. I was turned away for having a small dog (dogs are usually allowed in), on a previous visit when allowed a drink order customers were turned away because the pub was ‘over capacity’ post Covid restrictions.
