This is a lovely spot by the river, with a relaxed atmosphere and lovely interior. The staff are consistently courteous and helpful too. The group I was with contained several who follow a plant-based diet. Dishes are clearly labelled on the menu (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free). However, despite a very long list of meal options, there appeared to be no main courses for vegans. When we queried this, we were told there was a mislabelling and that one dish was vegan. We were also told that the vegan starters could be combined with sides to make a main. Three people ordered the main course dish (roasted cauliflour with cous cous) and found it to be bland and dry, and quite a small portion. The only part of the dish that added texture (a nut and spice blend that was sprinkled on the top) was really thinly sprinkled. The others in the group enjoyed their meal more. The children's pasta dish (tomato/cheese) was high quality, but there were no vegan options on the children's menu. The vegan deserts were a different story - delicious! We enjoyed summer pudding and chocolate torte with sorbet. However, we were really surprised that there wasn't a single type of alternative milk on offer, so this wouldn't be a suitable place to come for a pudding and coffee. It's disappointing, as this is a lovely venue, but they just aren't up to speed with plant-based eating yet. Overall, this would be somewhere I would recommend highly if you don't have this dietary preference, but it just wasn't the ticket...
Read moreInconsistent would sum this place up.
Horseradish which blows your face off. It's a good choice they have there.
But then the roast dinner comes out tepid, luke warm at best. Verging on cold.
Same with the coffee. a) Americano sucked. Horrible plain coffee. Worse than McDonalds b) Latte was amazing. Tasted so much different for some reason.
Same with desserts
It's alright having pink roast beef coming out, but if you're serving it cold and it's too slow. You're just shooting yourself in the foot.
This place is being ruined by the staff that are operating it.
Their system for seating people at the tables should be changed too. They have no dedicated receptionist, or front of house to greet food table people.
You have to stand at the bar like a plonker not knowing what's going on, whilst all the staff run around like headless chickens ignoring you.
You aren't even told you have to stand at the bar.
Just think...... Is this really the best way to run...
Read moreAs it was a Saturday we booked a table well in advanced knowing how popular it was likely to be having visited two of their pubs nearer to where we live, The Roe Deer and The Inn at Shipley several times previously. We were escorted to our table by a friendly member of staff and it was only a few minutes before someone arrived at our table to take our drinks order and leave us with the menus (which were the same as their other pubs). We all ordered something different including pork tenderloin, spicy beef salad and fish cakes. The food arrived with little delay, however, there were no vegetables except some peas and onions with the pork and no tomato salad with the fishcakes, which was disappointing, so it was a good job that we had ordered chips! The food itself was of good quality and the spicy beef salad plentyful. We also indulged in various desserts, including chocolate brownie, sticky toffee pudding and tiramisu all of which were delicious. All the staff we encountered were lovely and we were unhurried, sitting at our table with friends for nearly 3 hours! All in all, despite the smaller portion sizes, it was a nice atmosphere and overall a good experience so we can see why The Armory is so popular. Highly...
