Don't normally leave bad reviews but feel this place needs it. We've been coming into this pub with our toddler with no issues for almost a year. Staff were always friendly towards us and our son, giving him sweets now and then. Our son had always been well behaved and never caused an issue. We've just came in today during the afternoon to be swiftly turned away, reason being children are now banned from the big jug. Place was quiet and practically dead as well. Had it been busy we wouldn't have came in. I understand not everywhere has to be child friendly, but this came as a shock as there has been no warning anywhere or reason given for now suddenly banning kids. Banning kids after a certain time or when bands are on is fair game, but not a full ban. This pub is usually dead as well, maybe getting popular on a weekend but that is it. Even the food didn't last, maybe not enough demand for it? More and more pubs are going under as time passes, and they should be doing everything they can to survive. Do what you want, but at least put a post on social media and put some signs up saying children are banned, rather than embarrassing potential customers coming in...
Read moreThe new re-vamped big jug is amazing. The staff are so welcoming and the place has so much to offer from a quick cheeky to drink to live music. The food has not been launched but staff have showed me the menu due to launch next week and it looks fantastic, a big selection of pub grub to line your stomachs whilst out for a drink. Theres a great atmosphere to the place and i think this could be a great addition to Durhams night life! But if the night isnr for you dont worry its just as nice in the day and its also dog friendly. If you havent been just go check it out for yourself!
EDIT The pub is now serving food! It looks good tastes goods and is a good rival bar for wetherspoons beating their pricing on drinks and a superior quality of food. Check out their social media on facebook and tik tok.
An amazing team really trying to get something going here please go show them some support and if you have feedback fpr them just...
Read moreA little run down but bar staff are friendly enough. It is only busy on a Friday and Saturday evening when they have a live band or disco, the rest of the week sadly it is pretty empty and totally under used probably due to the price of the drinks/lack of choice and being more expensive than the competition and them not serving food like the rest of the pubs in the locality. It is really sad how a few homely touches pictures of bygone Durham and county Durham and a lick of paint would revitalise this pub and make people want to go in again even the snooker/pool table disappeared and now that Durham has no snooker club they could be cashing in on that demand by local people. The toilets are sadly upstairs and not wheelchair accessible and the staircase is not for those with vertigo as you can see the floor below going...
