I believe the waiter who attended us was having a bad day. She was brusque and curt, plunking our plates down abruptly. That being said, she may have been the only wait staff on duty, and was likely being run off her feet.
The food was a mixed bag. We ordered grilled halloumi (tasty) which came accompanied by a salad (school cafeteria quality).
My wife ordered the Scottish Salmon, which was very overdone, served with two potatoes and atop a bed of stir fried vegetables that may not have come from a bag of frozen veg - but hard to tell. The Salmon was completely unseasoned.
I ordered the lamb skewer which was spectacular. It was served with white rice (substitute for bread because I am gluten intolerant), garlic sauce and a chili sauce. And a side of the aforementioned salad, though this one had onions and red cabbage and was far more palatable.
That being said, there was a good selection of gluten free options - perhaps if we had avoided the salmon this review would have been a 4.
My suggestion to the owners: a bit of salt & pepper on the salmon would go a long way. Also - that garlic sauce pairs very well with the fish and would really...
Read moreTried to come here last Saturday evening but a wait of nearly two hours for a table, so ended up at Monster Fish and Chips. Knowing we would be back here tonight we booked this time. The aroma of the food being cooked is very appetising. It was very busy again so pleased we booked. Our table for four was reserved right by a large window offering amazing views of Loch Ness, as do the outside tables and chairs. The fish cake was very soft inside and spicy which was unusual. I enjoy spicy food so I enjoyed it. Having looked at other food photos online the kebabs looked the most appetising out of the main courses. The mixed kebab came with more meat than the Chicken Kebab. Served with a watery salad. It was okay but not amazing. We decided against dessert. Worth coming for the view, the food was acceptable although could have been better, although it does seem like a lot of effort goes in to it. I think the price reflects the location of the restaurant. All the staff were very pleasant. Worth going for a walk outside to take some photos of Loch Ness (rain coats recommended)! Starters, main course and one pint each for four people came to just over a...
Read moreWish I could give it 0 stars. Asked to be seated at one of the three open tables by the window. The plump waitress, young, said no, they were all 3 reserved. Seated us at the worst table, right by the door. 2 guys come in and get seated nearby. They asked to be moved to one of the window tables and were promptly seated there. After 20 minutes we finally coaxed our waitress over. Ordered soup and a sandwich. Meanwhile three other parties were seated. At 2 of the tables, soup was ordered and promptly served. Almost 20 minutes later the waitress brings out our sandwiches. When asked where my soup was, she tells me they're working on it!! Now mind you, the soup was supposed to be vegetable. There was no vegetable to be found and the broth was tasteless. Sent it back. Turned to my sandwich, a toasted cheese and tomato ciabatta. They're was so little cheese that what may have been there soaked into the bread. Folks, I've seen reviews like this before and thought the writer must be exaggerating. I can assure you this is precisely what happened. Spend your money elsewhere at a place with competent staff and where they're not so stingy...
