Cannot comment on the food as we never got a chance to eat. My family of 5 adults and 2 young children (5 and 2 yrs old) went in. Had phoned earlier to reserve table but was told, they don't do reservation. Told we may have to wait for a table. Not a problem. As we went it saw an elderly waiter preparing a table for 4. Told him we wanted a table for 7. Was told they don't do a table for 7 and there wasn'tlikely to be any vacant tables all night!! I pointed to the table for 4 and suggested we join a table for 2, making it 6 plus we could keep our 2 year old on his mother's lap. Was told that the table for 4 was for people waiting before us. A female waiter at that time took the 4 people to another table. She had heard part of the conversation and wanted to help but was over ruled by the male. He then relented and said that we can have two tables of 4 and 3. Because the children were getting hungry, i suggested that 4 of the party, including the 2 children start eating while three waited for an adjacent table. 4 members of my were then reluctantly shown the waiting table. A few minutes later he cam back and showed us to another empty table in another part of the restaurent. I got the message. We weren't wanted. Splitting a family at meal time is not acceptable. Our family shares food and have a laugh and together. I wasn't prepared for our family to be split up especially as I could see a table about to come free next to my seated family. Our family was a different colour to the waiter and everyone else in the pub restaurent. I realised the sort of service we would be getting so decided enough was enough. The waitress had made an effort to try to accommodate us but the waiter had shown his feelings towards us clearly. Perhaps I should have asked to speak to the manager to express my feelings but I didn't think I would have gotten anywhere. This service brought out feelings of racism I haven't had for over 2 decades. Also I had lost all faith in the restaurent so wasn't prepared to risk it. Several customers saw and heard us as we walked out and sought another restaurent. Perhaps they are doing so well that they don't need my £240 which we spent at the next restaurent. This included £30 tip. That's their loss as a result of an unfriendly welcome and poor service. Staying at The Highland Club for a few more days. Won't be dining...
Read moreI don't often write reviews, but after feeling like I was robbed at this place, I think I will. Wife and I went for her birthday night meal as we were visiting the area for the weekend. Food was absolutely appalling.
I had a "steak pie" at £17.50 (one of the cheaper options!). What i was served, was still half-frozen peas, chips that were crunchy and tasteless, carrot that came from a budget option frozen bag. The "pie"? I was served maybe six beef cubes in what I assume to off-brand granular gravy, with a disc of puff pastry put on top. You could see the seam around the pastry where the plastic wrapping would've been. I would've taken pictures, but the waitresses watched us like hawks from the other side of the room.
Absolutely enraged by the price we were asked to pay and honestly, if not for it being my Wife's birthday evening, I would've sent the food back and demanded a refund on the water-downed drinks we were served.
I called up to reserve a table and a half-drunken older gentleman answered the phone explaining that "we don't do that here". So we took our chances and turned up. The first red flag was that the restaurant was empty bar a single table with a couple who looked miserable. We found out why soon after...
While sitting listening to Channel 4 blaring in the bar and the rowdy patrons making us unable to chat proper, we soon discovered the second red flag -the speed at which our food arrived. I'm not one to complain at getting served quickly, but considering our order, maybe 5 minutes passed before it arrived since it was ordered. I suppose they had TWO microwaves.
Will not be back. Outrageous to even call yourselves a restaurant. The quality of meals served would've had normal patrons raise an eyebrow even if they were half the price.
Will never return. Will ensure friends and family avoid...
Read moreAwful experience of the Bothy. After having travelled for nearly 4 hours, we stopped at Fort Augustus for a quick overnight and hoped to get some dinner. We went to the Bothy as it looked quite cozy and inviting from the outside. How wrong we were! My wife and 10 year old daughter and I headed in only to be met by a puckered up old barmaid with short hair who instantly barked “in for drinks?!..” we replied “no for food” where she then nipped back ‘“you’ll need to be quick as the kitchen is closing”. Bearing in mind it was only 7:30pm and we thought considering it was supposed to be a “restaurant”, it would be open a little later than that!? She then nipped “and ‘it’s’ no allowed in” hinting at our dog. Not a problem we thought, there are still places that don’t allow dogs, fair enough, we can put him back in the motorhome. She then replied with her usual tone, “you’ll need to be quick though and you’ll need to sit through there cause she’s under 18” (hinting at my daughter). It was at this point a polite, nice young guy at the bar said there was another place that we could go that allows kids and dogs and has a later closing time. We decided to leave and go elsewhere and will not be returning or recommending the Bothy to anyone. Worst customer service and rudest wee woman I’ve experienced in a long while. Considering your catering for a lot of tourists, you do a pretty poor job of making them feel welcome. I also see from the other 1 star comments that this short haired old waitress is mentioned a few times! Common...
