Today was my first experience of the food thatâs served at Head of Steam, Cardiff and to be honest it was great. I had the southern fried chicken burger that came with fries and a couple of onion rings. Canât fault the food. Top notch. However...
I did have a concern with how the beer there, particularly cask beer, is kept and monitored.
A few weeks ago I had a cask beer there called Liquorice by the Ashover Brewery which tasted great at the time. So when I walked in today around lunch time to find that the very same beer is still available it got me thinking - Is this the very same beer that has been on since a few weeks ago when I last tried it? Or could it be a new barrel? So I asked the woman behind the bar (who was friendly and accommodating by the way) if I could have a little sample.
As soon as I tried it my face squinted like as if Iâd just taken a bite into a lemon wedge and I knew straight away it was off and way beyond redemption. Good thing I just had a sample and not a pint of the stuff. I asked the woman how long has this particular beer been on for and she replied by saying around a few weeks. I was aghast! I replied with âcask beer being kept for a few weeks?! Really?â She replied with âyes itâs fine for a beer to be kept for around that time as long as the temperature in the cellar was consistent.â I donât think so somehow.
For a cask beer to be on for around 3 weeks is an absolute joke! Cask beer should be on no more than 5 or 6 days or even 7 at a push depending on the beer. If the pub knows that a beer isnât shifting then try lowering the price to get rid of it. I wouldâve been extremely disappointed if Iâd paid full price for that.
I hope that the manager sees this because if an establishment is selling beer way beyond itâs shelf life then thatâs not right for the customer and the reputation of said establishment.
For a place thatâs relatively new and prides itself on the variety and quality of beer from across the world letâs hope that this can...
Read moreWe have been there Sunday evening 30/05 , food and drink wise everything was great, service provided for the 2 ladies working that evening was great, but the manager on duty was extremely rude with us. We asked one the girls if dogs were allowed inside, and if they have table for 3, they said yes, and walked away, We haven't seen a a4 paper asking the costumers to wait to be seated, the restaurant was quite empty, so we entered and sited a bit far from everyone as we had a dog with us, around 10 minutes later, one of the employees came to us, and explained very polite to us that we should wait to be seated so they could track ad trace us, next time or anywhere else in Wales, which we didn't know, we said sorry, she got all our detail to track and trace, and took our orders. Less than 5 minutes later Luke the manager on duties, which WASNT WEARING A MASK or FACE SHIELD or ANYTHING LIKE IT,(which for me spread the virus way more than walking in and sit by ourselves wearing masks to a table) came to us, been extremely RUDE, almost screaming at us saying that our attitude was unacceptable, that people like us is what's spreading Corona Virus, that we need to learn how to proceed in Wales, AND THAT HE WAS ABOUT TO KICK US OUT, BUT WOULD NOT DO BECAUSE WE HAVE ALREADY ORDERD, he didn't even let us speak, explain what have happen, or even say sorry about it, because he just could not stop barking to us.
VERY DISAPOINTED with this situation, we work in the industry in England, and know that things happen on the day to day basis, but THERE IS NO EXCUSE TO NOT BE POLITE WITH YOPUR CUSTUMERS, and lets remember that no one is obliged to know how to speak English, so a piece of paper written in English might not be enough if you MUST STOP people to sited.
Hope next time we can have a...
Read moreWe pre booked this restaurant 2weeks for a table of 4 in advance as we expected it to be busy. Our reservation was booked for 3pm and arrived at 2:50 and waited at the front entrance to be sited. However after waiting 10 minutes no one approached use so we went to the bar. We than waited for another 10 minutes before we called the bus boy over to ask how we can confirm our arrival and get to our seat. We were politely told our table was upstairs but when we were show to our table it was for 2 not 4. She told use she had mad a boo-boo ( her word) and she would try and fit it then walked off. 15 minutes later she appeared again while leaving us waiting in limbo to say she was not sure what to do. The other party then said they would accept the other table because they were only having drinks. We sat down and after 10 minutes we got the attention of a waitress who told us we had to order via the app. We tried for 10 with no success so called the same waitress over who told us the app was not working and we should order at the bar. We went there waited for 25 minutes. We had been there for an hour without being able to order a drink or food!!! We expressed our concern and was told âwe are busyâ but they were still accepting walking!!!!!! Please do not waste your time with...
