Our visit to the Hive was a purely last minute decision but, as it is exceedingly close to a car park - very much needed for myself - it was the perfect choice for us.
Despite not pre-booking, we were made very welcome by the staff, who, although the tables were all booked downstairs, assured us of a table upstairs.
As someone with walking difficulties, who uses crutches, I took my time, but managed the stairs safely, using the sturdy rails provided.
I do think that, if you use a wheelchair, it would be better to pre-book a downstairs table, to make sure of good access - the doors are automatic, which is a great help.
The tables on this upper floor were nicely spaced, and, importantly for me, the chairs were amazingly comfortable - enough for even we ladies of a more comfortable size, not to feel squeezed.
The staff were attentive, giving us menus once we'd settled at the table then, after taking our drinks order, they gave us the time and space we needed, to decide on what to eat.
There wasn't a huge selection on the menu which, to be honest, I was grateful for, as too much choice just makes me stress.
One of us is a vegetarian and, although there was only the one selection for each part of the meal, he was very impressed with his choice of Mains. He really enjoyed the food - which was so generously portioned, that even he struggled to finish it! Lol
We were informed that the menu is changed often, so anyone who visits on a regular basis would have a different choice each time.
My daughter and I chose the same food. I can't eat large portions, but we were encouraged to order a mix of whatever suited us, so we both ordered the Scottish Salmon starter, as the mains were too large a portion for me to tackle.
We ordering a few extras to add to our Salmon. We decided on a portion of their chips - which, even though I didn't eat many of them, really were delicious.
We also decided on their garlic-oil covered olives, as an appetizer, and they were the tastiest, plumpest, olives that I've had in a vey long time.We also chose a portion of garlic bread, because - why not? This was also plentiful, and the texture and taste was to die for! Lol
While we made our choices, the staff were attentive, and helpful in our decisions.
When the food came, which was at a decent interval - long enough to know that it was prepared for us as we waited, but quickly enough that we weren't sitting there too long, either - we were very impressed with it.
It was served efficiently, and was very nicely presented, and it all tasted wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole dining experience.
The portions were generous enough, that we couldn't even manage a desert - and, having seen their desert selections, I'll want to go back another time, to try them, too!
The prices we were charged were very good. Well within most people's reach, especially as the atmosphere in the Hive is nice enough to eat a celebratory meal, or a nicely romantic dinner for two or, for a group of friends, a nice place to enjoy good food, drinks, and a comfortable chat.
If you want to eat in a place that has a wonderful atmosphere, with staff that are friendly, and very helpful - and you want to eat food cooked beautifully, and served well, then I urge you to go to the Hive!
Oh, and if you fancy a decent breakfast, at a good price, then this, too, is the place to go for it - my companions have eaten there a few times, and heartily...
Read moreMy recent dining experience at The Hive Restaurant in Aberaeron left much to be desired. Despite the promising reviews I had heard, I found the overall visit to be underwhelming and far from the exceptional dining experience I had anticipated.
First and foremost, the ambiance of the restaurant was somewhat lackluster. The decor felt outdated and uninspired, which immediately set a disappointing tone for the evening. It lacked the cozy and inviting atmosphere that one would expect from a restaurant in a charming coastal town like Aberaeron.
The menu boasted an array of options that seemed enticing, but the execution fell short. The presentation of the dishes was adequate, but the flavors were mediocre at best. It was evident that the kitchen was aiming for a fusion of different cuisines, but the result was a muddled and confused combination that failed to deliver on any particular culinary front.
Service was another major letdown. The staff appeared disorganized and overwhelmed, leading to lengthy waits and confusion over orders. The lack of attentiveness and genuine interest in ensuring a positive dining experience was palpable, leaving me feeling like just another table to turn over.
Furthermore, the pricing was simply unjustifiable for the quality of the meal and service provided. It felt like The Hive was attempting to position itself as a high-end establishment, but the reality was far from it. I expected value for my money, but unfortunately, I left the restaurant feeling like I had overpaid for a...
Read moreJust spent two nights in the Vulcan room as a valentines treat so can honestly say that the Hive Townhouse is indeed a real treat!
On arrival you just ring the bell and and you’re instantly greeted by a very friendly, chatty and informative member of staff who takes you to your room. On entering, the first thing you notice is a beautiful, warm and homely room, made so by the sound of the radio softly playing in the background, such a lovely welcome! We were given all the information needed and left to enjoy, and wow, didn’t we just!
There’s been no expense spared in the recent renovations of the hotel and they’ve thought of absolutely everything! No problem here if you forget your toothbrush! You’re treated to complimentary treats and snacks from the mini bar, which I will add, are refilled daily and you’re also given a token that can be exchanged for one of the Hives famous ice creams during your stay!
Did I mention the copper, stand alone bath in the bedroom?! 🥰
The bed itself and the pillows are so comfy you really don’t want to get up in the morning but you must, only to enjoy the excellent breakfast that’s served just across the road in the Hive restaurant. We also had a late lunch in the restaurant which was also delicious and the staff are just lovely!
Although the Hotel doesn’t have parking, you can easily park in a nearby car park which was absolutely fine and only costs £4.60 for 24hrs.
I’d definitely recommend the Hotel, the restaurant and Aberaeron and can’t wait for a...
