We came to this place as not only is it situated on a main street next to various shops, but also as we were starving. Time of attendance: 1155hrs.
Party: 2 adults, 2 children
The restaurant captivated our attention as it is attractive and clean. The decor is very tidy and roof terrace was a nice extra.
We sat at the roof terrace, however none of the tables had been cleared with old coffees still present. As every waiter seemed busy, we gave staff the benefit of cleaning the table and bringing the coffees from previous customers to them.
Ordering had to be done at the till.
I ordered the ‘warm quiche of the day’ which I was told was Quiche Lorraine. This was shown as £7.95 on the menu. Also ordered was one kids pizza with fries and one jacket potato with beef chilli.
Time of payment: 1152HRS Amount paid: £25.40
I only noticed after payment that I had actually been charged £10.95 for the quiche. I asked twice for the quiche to be cut up and split into two different plates for the children to share. I did not question the price increase for the quiche at the time, thinking the menu was outdated, which happens commonly in restaurants. Also the server at the till appeared stressed, potentially due to busy lunch service. The cutlery/napkins are a self serve option.
Arrival of food: 1224HRS. The food was brought to my table by an order server who smiled and said enjoy. This was much appreciated and the first time I had seen a smile since I spoke to someone in the restaurant.
The food:
Kids pizza with fries I am aware this is a child’s meal however what was served was clearly a small frozen pizza, which can be found for a fifth of the price in Iceland/asda (these types of supermarkets, nothing higher end) The fries were also frozen and not seasoned. This will be given the benefit of the doubt as it is children’s food, so understandable.
Warm quiche of the day
This quiche was VERY small. I had been warned that it was small but did not expect it to be the size of a side rather than a main! Specially for the upcharge I paid. This appeared also store bought, definitely not fresh. Salad and garlic bread were also quite depressing/bland.
Jacket potato with beef chilli
This was extremely bland. No salt whatsoever. Temperature was ok however I could not say this tasted good or bad, just bland. I was charged a premium for the chilli, and once again paid over £10 for something that is nothing special or worth going out/eating out for.
I saw a waiter clear an empty table near mine, confirming this is something the staff pay attention to.
I went back to the till to order another childrens pizza meal and queried about the price difference on the quiche I ordered. The server explained I had been charged for another special which was meant to come with sweet potato fries. She offered a refund which was welcome and appreciated.
We finished our meal and left without ordering deserts.
Overall a mixed experience, with mediocre food. The place looks tidy and managed fairly well. Dogs are allowed and the roof terrace is definitely a plus. The menu looks very tidy and is easy to read. The food, delays in service and hiccups with the orders drag the experience below standard, specially with the prices paid. I’m afraid I can’t recommend this place to anyone unless significant improvements are made on food quality. This would make a difference between a mediocre and good experience. Service hiccups can be forgiven as it is bound to happen during...
Read moreWe visited in January and it was very busy even then but I’m sad to say that despite an inspiring sounding menu this place just missed the mark in so many ways. To start with it was freezing the table hadn’t been cleaned and there were no clear instructions telling you if it was table service- it wasn’t! After ordering we had to wait 50 minutes for our food only to find the veggie wrap (feta cheese, sun dried tomatoes lettuce pesto) had been substituted for a veggie finger which was hot with loads of pesto and very wilted lettuce it was horrible and I couldn’t understand why I hadn’t been asked what I would like. I returned it to the counter and had to stand around waiting while no one apologised and the chef said you want cheese? The whole thing had just put me off . Meanwhile my family had eaten some of their food but neither were very impressed. A waitress seemed to take pity on us and offered us a refund for the meal and a free dessert the crepes were nice but nothing special. Fair play to the waitress but we won’t...
Read moreProbably would have given it five stars if I hadn't seen my food being prepared! Oh! Went to the downstairs cafe. The person in front of me had ordered a tuna baguette and a chilli chicken baguette. The server, who was wearing gloves, squished the fillings into the bread. Then we ordered a cheese & tomato toastie and a ham & cheese toastie. The slices of ham were layered onto the bread, then a handful of grated cheese grabbed out of the tub. Then the cheese & tomato one was prepared. In Subway they ask if you want the gloves changing between meat and vegetarian options, but not here - and there was still tuna scattered around the preparation area. That aside, the food was fine. As I said, if I hadn't seen it prepared (and let's face it, we rarely do see our food prepared, do we?) then it would have been...
