On entering there was a nice welcome, but no offer to take our coats, as it got busy the area around the tables got tighter which meant our coats kept getting brushed off the back of the chairs, and couldn’t see anywhere to hang them up. The starters were very tasty indeed especially the Haggis Bon Bons. The main course was a little different in that the roast beef was tough to cut and eat, there were plenty of vegetables and these were done nicely although the roast potatoes were quite hard. The desserts were very nice and probably the hi-light other than the Haggis Bon Bons. The waiter was very attentive and pleasant to deal with, no problems there. We were even given a free coffee because they’d taken longer than expected to bring it, something we definitely didn’t expect as we had forgotten about it! We thought the whole meal was quite expensive for a “Sunday roast” @ £35 for two courses, especially if you were a vegetarian as you would have got a few slices of roast celeriac as the alternative to the beef for the same price. Over all quite nice but wouldn’t go back for the...
Read moreI will give it a very generous 4 stars out of 5 but I’d probably say more like 3.5/5. Firstly and most importantly it’s seriously over priced to justify the trendy restaurant thing, that’s both the food and the drinks. Yeah the food we had was generally fine and reading a lot of the comments on here complaining about tiny portions I suspect that was those who ordered the small portions and not the large. Personally I just had the Rogue burger, it was tasty enough without being anything special but only came with skinny chips, like straight out a freezer bag and no different to those served in McDonald’s. That was the only chips option as any others they had were finished by early evening. Other small issues I found was that the music playing in the background was a tad unnecessarily loud meaning that talking in a group meant shouting and it was also not particularly warm inside, I kept my three layers of clothes on the whole. I can’t complain about the service really, the staff were friendly and attentive so no...
Read moreI’ve been to the West End spot before, but this was my first visit to The Loveable Rogue Southside location.
Had to order the churros, £8.50 - they were my favourite last time, still great! And my fav Freedom Bakery sourdough, £5.50. For the main, I went for the roast lamb rump, £29.50, and unfortunately, I was underwhelmed.
The lamb was v salty, with nothing to balance or cut through it. The portion felt small, and I actually left feeling hungry - not what you’d hope for with a £30 dish. A side might have helped, but no one mentioned that and at that price point you expect a bit more substance and satisfaction.
The rest of the table seemed happier though - the moules frites were half the price and a solid portion.
Can’t say I’d rush back for this one.
