I literally never leave reviews unless somewhere is spectacular or terrible. Sadly, Iām here for the latter! Iāve fancied trying this place for years and as my friend lives locally, we popped in this morning for breakfast. To say the service was terrible would be an understatement! My friend ordered the scrambled egg with mushrooms and tomatoes & I had scrambled egg and bacon. Our scrambled egg was extremely bland & my friendās mushrooms were dry and looked inedible. On closer inspection, she discovered a hair. We rarely complain but she felt a bit repulsed so said to the waitress. The waitress didnāt even apologise. She said nothing, looked at us blankly, took the plate away and she did take it off the bill but was giggling about the whole thing with her colleague by the kitchen. We left feeling really crap & Iām sad because I was excited to try what Iād been told was an institution! For clarity, Iām on social media as @mandyhosts and review lots of places, never bad. So that tells you the impression this place left. Really sad & wonāt be back or recommending! Was gonna do a wee instagram or TikTok but...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've eaten here a few times and really love the desserts! I particularly like the banoffee pie with masses of thick cream but the sticky toffee pudding is also nice. My most recent visit was with a friend and her daughter and we just stopped in for cake on our way home from a walk, they were so busy there were no seats inside but it was a nice day so we sat at one of the tables outside. Unfortunately they somehow messed up our order so my hot sticky toffee pudding (they'd sold out of banoffee) arrived almost immediately and was cold (and half gone, despite me trying to wait, especially since it was making me rather thirsty so that was a bit annoying) by the time our drinks and V's meringue arrived! They did apologise but the drinks did still take an awfully long time to arrive.
I've eaten dinners and lunches here before too and they're always nice, I particularly like their eggs benedict for a Sunday brunch, sat...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a long standing local cafe which hasn't changed much over the years, which is definitely in its favour! It's one of the few places you can actually get a 'regular' cooked breakfast as well as some more imaginative brunch options. In this occasion I had the cooked breakfast, with all your usual fare of bacon, sausages, potato scone, scrambled eggs etc. They do a really good job of this and not greasy at all, all ingredients taste very fresh and good quality. My partner had the kippers with poached eggs (again not something you see a lot these days), the fish was full of lovely smoky flavour as it should be. The coffee is also of really high standard, they do all this without a sniff of pretentiousness. They also have a wide selection of bakes and everything is very reasonably priced. Very cosy and welcoming traditional cafe. (I forgot to take pics but it was all very...
