Had never heard of this place until a friend of ours gave us a voucher for our wedding anniversary after eating here herself. So eagerly anticipating a slap up meal we quickly booked a table. Just me and my wife. It is deceivingly large inside, from the roadside it looks 'snug' like many of the other older buildings in Narberth. It is set just off the main high street. Oh, advisory here....parking. Parking anywhere outside the restaurant isn't going to happen and further to that any of the high street bays are limited to 2 hours so if your planning a longer stay try and find one of the dedicated council car parks and enjoy a short walk through a lovely little town. Inside you have low ceilings, thin doorways and wooden/slate flooring all nicely decorated and maintained which is a good sign of any reasonable restaurant. It has lots of seating available, perhaps to much but I'll come back to that. The menu has ample choice for most featuring all the favourites and some delicacies to boot. My first impressions are that this is Narberth's take on that national pub chain beginning with 'M' but that wouldn't be fair, although the menu layout is similar in fashion (which gave me that impression) with the multiple choice and mix and match formula the actual grub is far more enjoyable that what the pub chain can produce. So far it's not quite what I was expecting or the image I had created for myself in my head. I had expected a more refined restaurant as it is in Narberth and locally Narberth has a fine reputation for culture and alternative takes on life, but no I was pleased none the less with how it was styled. The ordered food arrive in acceptable time and was very enjoyable from starter to desert with pleasant waiting by the staff. There is only a small selection of larger or beer the bulk of which is taken up by specialty Ale's but for larger drinkers they have San Miguel on tap or Peroni in bottles along with the usual reds, roses and white wines. The seem to do a roaring trade here and as time went on it became busier and busier with groups celebrating one thing or another and this leads me to why I have only given 4 stars, not the fact that this is a popular place but the seating arrangements. Many restaurants get this wrong so it's not all there fault but a little thought would solve it, they put the 2 seater tables (couples romantic tables) wherever they can fit them between the larger group tables and what you end up with is couples trying to be romantic but getting drowned out from the noise of the jovial mood of the groups. By all means they are also there to have a great time but please, please realise that if a couple come for a meal their looking for a romantic one, in a corner whispering soft words to each other. Not listening to who snogged who in the office last week :) . I wish all restaurants would look at there seating arrangements to help with this but if Peppercorn could change it around a bit then it would be a 5 star place. Still, don't let that put you off its worth your hard...

While the service was friendly and polite, I was hugely let down by the food.
I waited all day for my tea and fancied a nice big steak. I ordered the 16oz rump steak.
I couldn't believe my eyes when it arrived. I have never seen a rump steak of that size cut and served like it was.
The steak filled half of the plate yet was only about 5mm thick.. I asked for medium rare, but on a steak cut so thin that was impossible to achieve. I have never seen steak cut in this manner except for the really cheap stuff you get from all the pre-packed so called butchers that knock out off cuts. Considering this place advertises itself as a grill this is pretty poor. I couldn't even eat it, it was so dry. I did leave most of it and said that it was dry, to which they gave me a 15% discount on that meal. There is no comparison between this dried up leather and a Miller and Carter which are the same...
Read moreWe chose The Peppercorn for lunch based on so many positive reviews. We left wondering if we had been at the same restaurant!?
The steak panini I ordered was reasonable, but my boyfriend ordered the warm chicken and bacon salad which was very disappointing. It was absolutely tiny - served in a small bowl with a single piece of bread. I really don't know how it could be considered a main meal as it was barely sufficient for a side salad. It was definitely not worth the £8.95 price tag.
We raised the point when asked how our meals were and the waitress merely apologised, saying she would mention it to her manager - but no follow up to us. We reluctantly paid the bill in full, feeling that it would have been good customer service to have reduced our bill to reflect the mediocre salad.
We certainly have no intention...
