The Sultan Lounge — Restaurant in Great Britain

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sultan Lounge in Southend-on-sea, and I must say, the experience was delightful. The ambiance was inviting, and the staff were attentive, ensuring a comfortable dining experience. Here's a breakdown of the dishes I tried:

Chicken Tikka starter The chicken tikka was a standout. The pieces were tender, juicy, and marinated to perfection, offering a burst of flavors with every bite. The smoky aroma from the tandoor added an authentic touch that elevated the dish.

South Indian Lamb Curry This dish brought the heat! The lamb was cooked in a rich tomato and chili sauce, characteristic of South Indian cuisine. The spiciness was balanced, allowing the flavors to shine without overwhelming the palate.

Mushroom Rice A perfect accompaniment to the spicy lamb. The mushroom rice was fragrant, with earthy undertones from the mushrooms.

Chicken Biryani with Tarka daal The chicken biryani was aromatic and flavorful. The layers of spiced rice and tender chicken created a harmonious blend. Each spoonful offered a mix of textures and tastes, making it a satisfying main course.

We had a table booked for 18:30 on Sunday for the buffet priced at £6.99 for adults. We booked over the phone so the restaurant had our phone number. When we arrived, we were told that the big party before us should have left an hour ago but were still in the restaurant and we should come back half an hour to an hour later!

The manager that had to explain this looked dirty, with food stains down the front of his shirt and sweat all over his face. He is obviously working hard, which is good to see, but he should have a spare change of clothes so that he looks presentable to customers.

My main gripe is why the staff did not call customers who had tables booked and would be turning up imminently so they could inform them that their table would not be ready on time. That way we could at least have planned what we were going to do. Complete chaos and disorganisation from the restaurant and I would be seriously put off making a return visit any time...

I ordered the chicken madras, and the manager was very helpful when taking my order. Food was delivered promptly and with great flavours, the butter chicken was so soothing and had a quite nice aroma. I had ordered a sprite with my order, which was served chilled, and was honestly super refreshing for me. After a long day, this restaurant really made my day better with its food, immaculate service and the radio was playing which really brightened my evening, giving the restaurant a lovely vibe to it. I would recommend this restaurant with my heart and I would come here, time and time again. The portions were massive, with many choices for accompaniments, all at a reasonable price. Definitely a must go -to restaurant, with lively music, and great, delicious food, all with a nice flavour.
