UPDATE original review below.
Having enjoyed some excellent meals at Indian Food Club in Great Yarmouth, we were gutted to hear it had closed—until we found out they had simply relocated to Gorleston. A little further away, but we booked a taxi and headed over, keen to try it again.
On arrival, the restaurant looked great. The décor has a similar feel to Tattu—stylish and modern. The menu caught our eye too, though it included a number of international dishes not normally seen on an Indian menu. For example, lamb chops appeared under the European section but not in the Indian mains, which was a shame as they’re a favourite of mine.
For starters, we had Chicken 65, which was delicious and full of flavour, alongside Chorizo Beef Croquettes. The croquettes were a little underwhelming, lacking depth of flavour, and oddly topped with Parmesan cheese—apparently the chef’s way of adding his own twist. We also shared poppadoms but skipped the pickle tray, as it was priced at £6.95.
We’d asked for a break between courses, but were told they were ready straight after the starters. After some back and forth with the server, a delay was arranged, though it became a bit confusing. When the mains eventually came—Lamb Kadai and Chicken Jalfrezi—it was clear they had been sitting under a hot lamp for some time. The top was hot, but the bottom of both dishes had cooled noticeably. The flavours were good, but the lamb was unfortunately very tough and chewy. On the plus side, the rice and naan were excellent.
When asked if we’d enjoyed the meal, we gave our feedback—mostly positive, with a couple of points for improvement. The server didn’t respond and appeared walk off, but a manager soon came over. He was great: attentive, understanding, and he acknowledged that the mains had indeed been left under the lamp for 20 minutes. He offered a discount, which we declined, explaining we just wanted to give honest feedback. When the bill came, he’d kindly applied a discount anyway, which we more than covered with a larger tip.
Overall, while this visit wasn’t without its issues, the flavours were still there, and the staff in charge handled our concerns well. If this had been our first ever visit, I might hesitate to return—but knowing how good IFC was in Great Yarmouth, I’ll definitely give their Gorleston spot another try.
Thank you 🙏
Been coming past for a few years and our taxi driver kept saying it was a shop not a restaurant. I’m pleased to say he was wrong and what a fantastic find.
The food was exceptional and I have to say the chicken 65 is better than my daughter’s mother in law who is also from South India. The food tasted really fresh and tasty. We will certainly be visiting...
Read moreVisited with a friend, this restaurant is in what used to be the Tramway Pub. They have done a good job turning it into a restaurant but it still feels slightly "pub-like" inside. On-site parking is available and we were able to park right outside.
The menu is wide ranging and has a number of different cuisines to choose from, although as you would expect the majority of dishes are from India. One slight oddity (to me at least) was that there didn't appear to be "sides" to choose from (except the usual rice, breads etc), so we ended up having what were starters, as side dishes. This did bump up the price, and overall it did feel a bit on the pricey side compared to your "typical" Indian meal.
Another interesting point is that for each meal you were able to customise the spice level. Describing your preferred spice level is obviously quite subjective; I chose moderate but what I ended up with I would say was slightly less than moderate - it was still absolutely delicious though and the staff did say beforehand that if it wasn't to taste they could change the spice levels, I didnt choose to do so on this occasion.
The staff were very attentive and polite, the food arrived quickly and was nice and hot.
The background music was a bit different to what you typically get in an Indian restaurant (I think Disney themes at one point?), and wasn't really to my taste, but clearly that's a personal thing!
Overall, enjoyed my experience there, the food was very nice, with a few minor points which didn't quite do it for me along with the high price point which means I have removed 1 star....
Read moreMy daughter said if she could she would give this more than 5*. The restaurant is beautiful, you could see a lot of thought had gone into the decor. We were greeted straight away and shown to our table. A gentleman then brought over this free lime drink which was very refreshing. They took our drinks order which we then got more or less straight away. The fruit juice I think was freshly squeezed, mmm you have to try the pineapple juice lovely. We took a bit of time looking at the menu as there was so much to choose from. It was set out really well though and it had symbols to show any allergies. We decided to go straight to main courses so we would hopefully have room for dessert. The staff were so attentive and answered any questions we had. They let us choose how hot we would like the food which was great as usually you get it how it comes. The way the dish is served meant you could have it to yourself or you could put it in the middle and share. The portions were very generous and all the extra bits like naan bread, popadoms, rice etc would easily feed more than one person. The food itself was absolutely delicious. So much flavour and cooked to perfection. My daughter can be quite a fussy eater but she really enjoyed it. The desserts were phenomenal and so well presented. I actually broke my rule and took a photo as they looked so good. It was a lovely evening and we will definitely be...
