Tucked just beyond the bustling heart of Guildford lies The Wooden Bridge, a pub that feels less like a local watering hole and more like a love letter to British hospitality. The moment you step inside, you’re wrapped in warmth — the hum of friendly conversation, the soft glow of amber lights, and the comforting aroma of freshly cooked food that promises something special.

The Wooden Bridge doesn’t just offer space; it offers soul. It’s a place where laughter lingers in the air, where families gather, and where even a simple drink feels like an occasion. The décor whispers of classic English charm, yet it’s unpretentious — effortlessly welcoming. On summer evenings, the outdoor garden transforms into a lively, twinkling haven; in winter, the interior glows like a fireside dream.
🥩 The Food – Comfort Elevated to Art
The kitchen here doesn’t just serve meals — it celebrates them. The burgers are stacked with care and dripping with flavour, the fish and chips arrive golden and proud, and even the pub classics taste as though they were prepared by someone who still believes in the magic of good, honest cooking. Vegetarian and gluten-free diners are not forgotten; every plate seems designed to make you feel thought of.
🍷 The Drinks – Crafted for Conversation
From perfectly poured pints to wines that surprise you with their quality, the drinks list delivers. The bar staff know their craft, and they know their crowd — friendly, genuine, and always up for a recommendation. Whether it’s a cold cider on a sunny day or a warming red by candlelight, there’s a sense that every drink here comes with a smile and a story.

Big Mistake, Never Again Whilst looking on-line for somewhere to watch the FA Cup Semi Final...hay presto up popped Wooden Bridge Pub Guildford. Their Website specifically showed the FA Cup Semi Final as an option when booking, it also showed it online and was clearly shown on their own Fixtures List of games showing. To try and make sure we rang them directly and specially asked if they were officially showing the Semi Final with the confident reply from the manager "yes I am showing the game". We filled in the online booking form, chose the option that the booking was to watch the FA Cup Semi Final and off we went on our 40 minute drive to get there from where we live in Addlestone. Once there we purchased our first drinked and relaxed whilst looking at the menus to decide what food we would be having during our visit. You've probably worked out where this going... So, with 10 minutes to kick-off...the game that was being shown was in fact the Liverpool Premiership game! With our drinks only started I approached the staff to ask "what game are you actually showing this afternoon"...to which I was told "Liverpool v Spurs" I immediately advised the staff member that we had contacted them this afternoon to specifically ask if they where showing the FA Cup Semi Final and that we had been told they were. The staff member consulted a list and said confused that "it's not on our list of games that we are showing". Again I explained we had contacted them and been told they were showing the game, I asked how it could happen, I told them we had travelled all the way based on the advice we had been given and that our time had been wasted. The staff member just acted dumb and would answer, not even an apology or any recognition of their mistake and the impact it would have. Realising that we were clearly dealing with idiots, who neither knew or cared at all about the matter we left our drinks on our table and we left to try and find somewhere that was showing the game. The staffs utter disregard and total lethargy about the situation was and is 'shameful' and they should be nothing but ashamed and embarrassed, because the person we spoke to about our booking will be in no doubt about what they told us, no matter how they will try a d spin their BS reply. We will be making a follow up complaint to get our drinks refunded. Awful experience...Wooden Bridge -...
Read moreIf you, dear reader, are in search of a convivial establishment that marries the rustic comforts of time-honoured pub culture with the high-octane frivolity of modern revelry, then look no further than the Wooden Bridge – a veritable cornucopia of ale-fuelled camaraderie and gastronomic satisfaction. From the moment one crosses the threshold, one is enveloped in a milieu of cheerful pandemonium: hearty laughter, the clink of glasses, and the reassuring scent of fish-and-chips wafting through the air. The staff, with their alchemical ability to transform prancing hunger into a delectable “Hunter’s Chicken” feast (and indeed other pub classics), do so with aplomb. The outdoor seating beckons like a sylvan retreat: grab a pint, bask in the genial weather (or at least pretend to when the British skies play coy), and watch the world wander by. For those whose intellectual predilections extend to live sport, the Wooden Bridge supplies multiple large screens and the requisite fervour of fellow supporters, rendering the viewing of a Premier League tussle or rugby clash into an event of operatic magnitude. Meanwhile, if you bring along your quadruped companion – yes, the place is dog-friendly – you’ll receive glances of good-natured approval rather than stern reprimands. Of course, no paradise is without its foibles: on exceedingly busy nights the pace may resemble that of a philosophical debate rather than swift service; but the quality of the environment more than compensates. In short, I bestow the Wooden Bridge the highest encomium: an exemplar of conviviality, value, and unpretentious grandeur. Five stars –...
