My first experience here was flat. We had just missed their breakfast, so we ordered from the menu... it wasn't all that. It was an expensive experiment plus the drinks were luke-warm and got pretty cold quickly. I was also quite disappointed at the pigs in blankets which attracted me to the restaurant in the first place! They were much smaller and cost more to have sauces in them. I felt they could assisted in explaining what to expect with the meals. My second experience was much better with their all-you-eat breakfast (it was right beside my accommodation). I could pick the meals I was familiar with and also try new ones without the added costs incase I didn't like them. Their potatoes and bacon mix was heavenly! Sausages were inviting and delicious. And their fried eggs were sunshine 🌞. Drinks were still luke-warm even when I asked to make it hot - maybe it's a policy there. Overall, it's a great place to have a lovely breakfast and the ambience is calming.

First off the waiting staff were trying their best, but the rest was a bit under par. First of the disable toilet - baby change had run out of paper and the sink only produced cold water. Food, was ok, I didn't know Toby doesn't peel their roast potatoes...and the hot counter was covered in dropped food and empty dishes. The floor behind the hot counter was, shall I say a bit messy. Not everything can be blamed on the staff, the plates are old and scratched, there was only beef gravy on offer, we was sharing the salt and pepper between 3 tables and the table had no condiments or coasters.... Kim our waiter did a good job, but it seems to me to be a lack of leadership and organisation, didn't see anyone take control and drive the shift. I hope it improves, it would be a shame if this place goes the way of so many restaurants in the Harlow area.

I tried this place today and thoroughly enjoyed the food. There was a choice pork, gammon, turkey and beef for the meat and a wide variety of vegetables on offer. The Yorkshire pudding although huge was a little greasy in the middle and overly crispy on the outside but thats uust being picky. The service was excellent and they don't like many place an automatic service charge on your bill. You have the option to tip when you pay which is how it should be. The place was clean and tidy and kids and pet friendly for what I witnessed but I could be wrong as the pet was leaving as I entered. Maybe they were kicking the dog out? I don't know... The price of a pint is reasonable for this day and age so overall it was an enjoyable relaxing experience on a sunny filled day..

The venue was rundown, the section we were taken through the carpets were absolutely dirty filthy they were ruined and desperately need replacing. The cutlery given to us had previous food stuck on them so I asked for another and again had previous food stuck on it, Only after the third attempt did I get a clean set. Some yorkshires had fallen off their tray at the serving area and were resting on the side surface and against the side wall. Thinking they would be thrown away, to my horror the chef just grabbed one and put one of those onto my plate. These things alone just made me feel uncomfortable with the whole dining experience. My wife was glad she went to the toilet after eating and not before as she said they were either filthy or out of use. More care needed in this area too and more frequent checking? Just these few things are enough to spoil a dining experience and it did It feel like I had entered a back street run down restaurant and regretted making a booking. I would have been happier to pay an extra couple of quid and gone to a nice pub restaurant somewhere instead. Waitress was very helpful but clearly rushed off her feet , so her employer Toby is letting the side down rather than the staff who were really nice. Maybe the staffing levels are too low? The building definitely needs some urgent maintenance for sure. This last visit was really disappointing I have to be honest. Venue 1 star. Extra stars earned from the staff to save the...

I just have to come on and tell you about our visit at Toby Carvery (Edinburgh Gate, Harlow) yesterday. We visited yesterday with our family for a special birthday. My son has Coeliac Disease so as usual I went full mumma bear asking lots of questions about the food, what was safe for him etc. I was absolutely blown away with Charlotte, our waitress, she was fabulous. Her knowledge and attentiveness was good standard. She never once made me feel I was being an inconvenience. Shes obviously had some amazing training but has also got the personality and care to love her job and helping others. She organised for his veg, potatoes and Gravy to be freshly cooked/prepared and brought out just for her him. She gave me details of how the meat was prepared and served so I could feel confident in its safety for him. When it came to pudding she went and took photos of the ingredients for some of the ice cream elements so that I could feel confident for him that he could have a safe meal. Where the meat is cut up, the Yorkshire puddings are also stored. This presented a worry for us but when I mentioned it they went and got fresh meat and a freshly washed plate. Absolutely brilliant!! I've waited 24hrs before posting to make sure we've had no reaction...

Had to wait ages to place our order after being seated with our waiter concentrating on clearing dirty tables than serving customers. Waited ages for the carvery. The carver seemed to not really know what she was doing. There was hardly any vegetables, and by the time the vegetables were replenished, the meat was cold. Four other tables around us made various complaints, two of which refused to pay for their meals. When we had finished our meal we asked for a bag to put our Yorkshire puddings in to take home we were told that they had boxes at 99p each this was refused he then returned with what I can only describe as a sack to put them in. After another 10 minutes, the bill still hadn't arrived, so was asked for again. we were then asked if it was cash or card? When we replied cash, he then had the cheek to ask if we wanted our change. I've never had that before and was totally shocked and discussed. I went and complained to the manager and was told he was new. If this was the case they need to seriously train there staff better and new starters should wear a bag indicating a new staff member this would of told everyone he was new so he would of been given the benefit of the doubt. Management sort it out not a good experience...
