We went in today - asked if it was open and was told ‘yes’. Ordered a coffee and a soft drink and started sitting in the window as it was being prepared. Asked for a glass for the soft drink as none was provided, and it seemed like quite the inconvenience to the chap serving. Then we paid. The moment the payment went through the staff member then said ‘just to let you know we actually close in five minutes.’ Really not impressed that he had so many opportunities to tell us this when he saw that we were clearly wanting to sit down for drinks and a chat together, but waited until we’d paid. I stopped off for a couple of glasses of lovely Prosecco (really reasonably priced) and ended up with coffee sourced locally. What this lovely couple don’t know about coffee and their wines isn't worth knowing. Just sitting and listening to the detail of wines and coffee while I was there was so interesting that I bought the local barista brandy and Sussex brandy and coffee - if your shopping in queens road sit in and watch the world go by in a beautiful environment priced for all pockets - wonderful company...
Read moreThe former Bottle of Hastings has been reborn. as Hastings Wine and Coffee, and it's excellent. I attended the first wine tasting evening, and it was a delight (as well as a bargain!). Darren presented 5 wines, mixing relatively familiar options like Cremant de Bourgogne and Cava from Spain (but what a great cava it was!) with some surprises - Welsh chardonnay, a Slovenian wine and orange wine from Georgia. This was accompanies by amazing cheeses, charcuterie and other nibbles. The evening was fun and informative, and ended with a great decaf coffee.
