The cookhouse cafe is a truly welcoming and cozy family-run cafe, with wonderful service, delicious food and a unique decor. Their Covid-19 safety concept is beyond anything I have yet to observe: you will be provided hand-sanitizer, all tables, surfaces and chairs are thoroughly cleaned in-between *each* customer, and social distancing is actually maintained between different tables. Csaba will greet you and immediately make you feel welcome as well as offer personal recommendations. Once seated you can admire the handcrafted art on the walls (made by the owners) which reflects their family history and Hungarian heritage. It's a truly unique place to sip your tea, enjoy an English breakfast and also the Hungarian specialty bread Lángos which is a MUST try if you come down. I advise anyone who is planning a visit to book ahead to secure a place!

Visited in July 2023. We came to Hastings for a long weekend. On our last day, we were looking for a highly rated Brunch spot local to our accommodation. We came across Cookhouse Cafe, it was fairly quiet when we arrived. We promptly greeted and sat to our seats. The decor is very eclectic, full of framed artwork and prints. The cafe was very clean, tidy and welcoming. The menu is very good, with a great range of options, some with a Hungarian twist. We opted for Eggs Benedict - one with Bacon and the other with Mushrooms. Both incredibly delicious, the Hungarian paprika used was a great touch. The juices were freshly squeezed. After we ate, we managed to speak to the owners, who were very interesting, spoke about Food, Google Reviews, London and Budapest life. Highly recommended. P.S - Sorry for the late review - I never forgot. Rishi

Came here twice for lunch and both occasions came away full and satisfied. The Eggs Benedict were the best we’ve ever tasted and I also tried the Chicken Letcho which was delicious. Food is carefully prepared and served piping hot. The interior is wonderfully quirky and the service by Csaba was attentive and impeccable. See if you can guess the famous hungarians on the wall and you may get a prize! Loved it and will come again if we venture to this part of the world! Well done guys!

First and foremost, I want to emphasize that the negative reviews you may come across are misleading. I walked into the establishment looking quite disheveled and soaked, curious to see if the reviews held any truth. Within just two minutes, I realized I didn't need to order anything; I already knew what I needed to know.

The atmosphere is very family-friendly. As I entered, I noticed a family leaving with their children, all of whom were smiling and appeared genuinely happy.

The owner was gracious enough to walk them out, and when I stepped inside, he greeted me warmly and seated me promptly. His politeness and well-dressed appearance made a great first impression.

After being handed the menu, I took my time to read through it. The pricing was reasonable, and the quality of the offerings looked impressive. There was a wide variety to choose from, and I could tell from the presentation of the dishes at the table across from me that the food was exceptional. The aroma wafting through the air was delightful, and the diners seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their meals.

To be honest, I was surprised that some of the individuals leaving negative reviews were even allowed in. They struck me as the kind of people Boris Johnson might refer to as 'bloody rapscallions.' I informed the host that I would not be placing an order and decided to leave. He kindly escorted me to the door, thanked me for stopping by, and wished me a good day.

Even though I felt I had wasted his time, he remained incredibly polite, which speaks volumes about the owners and their commitment to customer service.

The establishment itself is small yet charming, perfect for groups of one to four. It was tidy, and I appreciated being able to see into the kitchen, which was also well-kept. The menus were spotless, free from any stains you might find elsewhere. I can't stress enough how clean the place is.

To the owner, I sincerely apologize for taking up your time without ordering. I hope this review helps counteract the misguided one-star ratings. I look forward to returning to experience the...

Having been to Cookhouse several times already I would recommend the food and the picturesque lattes.

I had however a very disappointing experience this morning. I rang their phone no. via Google Map yesterday and having not received a call or text message back to say they could not accommodate us (2) I made the assumption that we had a table waiting for us

However when I got to door, the gentleman who seems to be in charge, had no idea what I was talking about.

When I showed him the Google Map listing and the call button leading to a phone no. to ring, which I asked him to confirm was the right one, he told me he didn't know his no, which I find hard to believe.

He then went on to tell me with a very talked down attitude (didn't hear sorry once) that a voicemail did not equate a booking and I was expected to try ringing back until I get an answer (why enable voicemail in the first place then 🤷‍♀️ or maybe leave a prompt to say that messages are not retrieved 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️).

So there you have chaps: nice food but make sure you follow you go through the right hoops as management has...

Visited here at the weekend due to our hotel breakfast being pretty much non existent! We searched on Google for a cafe and the Cookhouse came up. We drove to the location and parked across the road in the Morrisons carpark. When we arrived the owner came straight to the door to unlock it, have seem some reviews complaining about being locked in but I actually found it quite comforting and safe! Each time someone was at the door, the owner greeted them within seconds. The latte was impressive and a definite talking point with the foam mountain! My husband had an English breakfast which he loved and I had the classic eggs Benedict. I have this every cafe we go to and this was by far one of the best I've tasted, beautifully presented to. Lots of interesting decor around the place, great atmosphere. I really can't fault the place! Also, we were surprised at how reasonably priced it was. Thank you for a lovely...
