TLDR. Poor staff manners made what would have been a good meal into a bitter disappointing one. Will not eat here again until something is done about it.
Long version.
What you get: Normal spoons decor Good selection of drinks Alright food Condescending staff that will belittle you at a moments notice.
Wait! What?? If the last one on that list is different from the others, it's because apart from the regular spoons affair the staff are such a let down! From the moment I ordered, the bar tender was very condescending towards me. Whilst ordering a meal I was asked for my ID to which I have no problem showing but then he proceeded to ask me questions about my ID, from there he then requested the ID of the person I was with (again that was fine) but because he did not think that she looked like her driving license then began to pass the license to other staff members without so much as a sorry for taking a while. My partner felt humiliated as they practically judged her over a change of hair style as well as then requiring another form of identification. Once this was over the original bar tender walked back up to me to finish serving and on being asked why they were over the top with the checks then kept repeating the 21 law. I asked "why is it only this one time that this has ever happened here" (We have eaten here before with no issues). Again "well if you look under 21..." Bear in mind at this point neither me nor my partner had received an apology for their behaviour up to this point and I knew we wouldn't have received one. This ruined what would otherwise have been a good meal.
Once again, I have no problem with staff asking to see ID but to start questioning our appearances based on a haircut and change of make up is borderline stupidity. So there you have it. As long as you look identical to your driving license and don't change anything about your face or hair you'll be fine.
My advise, retrain bar staff on how to speak to customers and how to go about asking for ID. We will not be visiting here again until we hear that either the staff have been changed or retrained. I am extremely disappointed in...
Read moreWe walked in having a meal and couple of drinks. I was with my two daughters. We went directly to the bar to purchase some drinks. There were a few people there and one of the staff was talking to his colleagues. He was telling them that the cooler had broken down, well that was the gist of the conversation as it was tangled with many expletives that it was hard to understand. All in front of the customers. Then it went downhill even further I ordered a Real Ale, my first sip was disappointing to say the least, it had a sour aftertaste. I had another couple to make sure it was not my taste buds. I returned the pint to the bar where one member of staff tasted a drop from the pump. He said it tasted OK but would pour me another. I said I was not convinced and asked for a different beer, which fair play to him he obliged. I went back to our table with a view to ordering our food. Taking a sip of my new pint it had the same sour taste as the first. My girls drank their drinks and we retired to one of your rivals where I enjoyed a couple of excellent beers, more expensive though. I can honestly say that in all my years drinking in your establishments, this is the first time I have felt let down by you. Please sell the place before it impacts on you in a very negative fashion. I had to give the pub one star to allow me to write this review but it is not even deserving of that. Sorry Wetherspoons but you need honesty to retain, what in my opinion, is a wonderful reputation. The spend per person would have been more but...., and of course we would have returned,...
Read moreJust popped in for breakfast and... They are pushing out burnt toast. We are sitting opposite the serving hatch and every breakfast that gets dished up comes with burnt toast. Ours arrived with the less incinerated side upwards, but we had a couple of crusts done to charcoal. And the people behind me told the server that their toast was burnt only to be informed "no its not" - against the blatantly obvious evidence before us all. Otherwise it was fine. The mushroom was still soggy to the point that I wander what they fry it in and the beans are tasteless, but it has always been so. 24/7/23 Had sausage, beans and chips. Nice enough, but... The amount of chips wouldn't make a chip sandwich (two slices of bread). And the beans appeared to have been a heaped table spoon full - would, and could, have counted them individually. Is this austerity? Sausages - no problem. Have noticed the chips have been getting sparse recently. My partner thought the amount of chicken on her pizza was rather thin as well, totally out numbered by the peppers. Is this really how...
