I discovered pixie on social media and a few weeks prior to a trip away slightly stalked their socials and knew it was a must visit with changing specials each week
A family run business, fresh Homemade goodies and high quality 100% vegetarian and 90% vegan
A little Gem in the town and Talented bakers Supporting local suppliers selling a variety of products too
I went after doing the Glossop plane wreckage walk with my family and certainly worked up an appetite and was scared i wouldn’t make it in time before they closed due to getting lost
Made it and It was a lovely sunny day , secured a window seat , chatted to other customers and stroked some doggos , Emily was patient and so understanding when I ordered as I got in a bit of a pickle yet made to feel at ease
Now onto the feast , prior to going I browsed the menu and torn what to get but couldn’t resist their panini special , along with their carrot lentil soup and a vegan cheesy scone , loaded bean nachos with all the toppings , not forgetting the bread factory sourdough they get delivered paired with marmalade and spread
Everything was amazing, I even reserved cakes earlier in the day too as I was eager to get dibs , the mud pie was nothing I’ve had before and layers of mousse , Oreo tiffin was tasty , cherry Bakewell is a classic and can’t resist sprinkle cake
As it was the week after Easter I was sad to miss their previous goodies but when I spotted they still had the hot cross bunny latte I knew what drink to get and super cute , well spiced along with a complimentary Biscoff to dunk , extra points
I returned the next day to purchase a cool sounding jam from an independent baker as I couldn’t stop thinking about it and wished Emily happy birthday
A must visit cafe they also do postal , you can’t not try their bakes heads up on their Wednesday drop and...
Read moreSo many great reviews, but I am not very impressed at all. The gluten free and vegan cake I had was very sweet, heavy and so much fat! And only the one option. And if you like Victoria sponge cake, they need ONE month's notice! Its very difficult for someone who has gluten intolerance and is also vegan, and the way the shop is advertised I did think it would not be such a problem, and a great local business. It seems to be very popular for the majority of customers, but I'm afraid it is not very good for me. NB. Further to the owner's reply to this review:- I have taken on board what you are saying, but I am entitled to my opinion, as you are yours. I am not the only reviewer not impressed with your vegan/gluten free cake. I have given my own and honest opinion in my review. With regard to one month's notice for a celebration cake, I appreciate you may need it for an iced cake, and I apologise but I didn't think 3 weeks notice would be such an issue for you and did not think I was being unreasonable, but can understand if thats how you work. But if you bake regularly for your shop/cafe, I really couldn't understand the month's notice for a...
Read moreUpdated in response to owner's reply: Cute looking little cafe on the steep main road in Tintwistle, with a couple tables inside and out. Local arts and crafts items on display and for sale. Had high hopes for the cakes after reading reviews but unfortunately ours (one vegan / gluten free and one standard cake were bought) were very dense and heavy, as if not properly risen, also a bit too sweet for my taste. Not sure if we were a little unlucky or this is the general standard of the cakes here. The tea was okay but I found it a bit bland tasting, I'm told it is a quality brand though (see reply). NB. Apparently the 'silken' tea bags used here are compostable, made from a material called 'Soilon', based on corn starch - I learned something by researching it in response to the review reply, having previously thought they were made from plastic. Still prefer loose tea personally, but can see tea bags are convenient! I have to say, even the non-vegan cake was heavy and I've had better vegan cake, but it's a great excuse to pick up some cake again sometime, in case it was just a 'bad cake day'. The shop is clearly very popular...
